Seems to be pretty varied in my experience. I've had groups where I kept all aggro and never lost a mob, and I've had groups where I lost aggro most of the time. The second instance ended up being the bard I was grouping with was taunting (...) and the shaman in the group was doing full DPS with his pet and was two levels above me.

I will have to say that there is something definitely wrong from the switch to beta to live. Even before they upped the damage on Malice I tanked better than that.

Could be a combination of things (some in other threads): Armor of Darkness not working, reduction in Devour Str, reduction in damage on Malice, or maybe they did some sort of stealth nerf.

Who knows? But now without official Vanguard boards I am wondering if they will even take notice.

I think the main reason is that they severely nerfed our damage, and gave us no hate to back it up.

Armor of Darkness is worthless - I hold aggro better in ebon blade.

Our Taunt right now... is very bad, and we are probably the lowest DPS class, unless pallies are also suffering.

I'm sorry, but having to deny my group well over 50% of their damage potential is BROKEN. 20% would be 'balanced'.

People already know we suck at holding hate - I got my first "we are looking for a TANK" last night.

Sigil is too concerned that they know they ripped this class from EQ - they are more focused on making it 'original' then balanced.

Honestly, I loved SK, DRK is awesome... but with this news, I'm seriously thinking about just rerolling a warrior, since atleast Sigil knows what they are doing that class.

Xaices, I know you are trying your best, but Sigil seems to just like swinging the nerf bat without even thinking, especially for DRK.

BTW: some offensive classes can give you more hate, so thats probably why you held aggro easier in some groups.

edit: couple spelling mistakes. I'd like to see the patch notes from those 11 patches 1705 - 1716 if anyone has found them. from beta -> preorder.

On a side note: our rescues are fine, Its too bad that you have to use them faster then they cooldown, though.

I wonder if a dev or devs even read these forums and if they do they certainly really dont care about the class or how their tank classes behave in game. We are by far the worst tank class, can't generate the hate, cant offer DPS even when off tanking, cant save worth a crap, its just a sad sad day really and a huge step back from where they took drk in the last days of beta.

TSK TSK TSK Sigil you honestly have taken the most intriguing class and have decided to throw it in the garbage.

My experience has been that if I am with DPSers that are slacking and just not really trying, I will do fine. If I am with any one worth their weapons I will lose agro all day long, or we will kill slow as hell because every one has to throttle back to let me tank.

It really is ridiculous.

Just the same with me. If the group doesn't hold back on their damage I lose aggro really fast. That sometimes leaves me hammering away at my keyboard and firing every single ability that is not on cooldown in the futile attempt to hold aggro and always hope their is no add popping on us.

I find most of the time I can hold aggro on mobs, if my tanking weapon is of higher item level than our DPS and I just learnt new skills. It is mostly the levels before I can learn these new aggro-keeping skills which give me trouble. For example, right now, I'm level 17 and I learn a whole lot at 18 (new provoke, torture, etc). This is especially the case now that my group has pimped up DPS gear and they blast anything out of the water. Quite often I will struggle against our Ranger, Bard and even Blood Mage if they start attacking before me.

I find I really NEED to pull to maintain aggro on mobs. I NEED to co-ordinate my group to DPS one target at a time; to give me a few seconds on boss fights just to ensure my hate is above the damage curve. I NEED to spam everything I got, as soon as I got it. It works mostly for me.

When I played my Warrior in beta, it would be a lot easier for me to hold aggro. Not just the fact that they have more DPS, but because they had a spammable skill called "Taunting strike" which would do 75% weapon damage and add a whole lot of hate. We need something like this. Vexing strike could add hate, for example. However I feel wary of giving us Warrior DPS as a quick fix. The DPS is what makes the Warrior, giving it to us would make us far OP.

All we need is an actual 6sec Malice (non-CD was a bit OP), 10min WoD (5min OP, 15min a bit long) and a spammable skill which lets us build hate only limited by our endurance.
Malice at the moment is mostly only used once or twice a fight; the extra slight increase in DPS from a shorter CD would make it easier on us.
WoD is like an emergency skill. If you REALLY need to get aggro on something and nothing's working, it's great.

Pull for your group with Torture; make sure the melee are using their anti-taunting skills and not taunting ones; if the melee have hate transfer abilities have them used on you; use a high DPS 2h weapon; whenever provoke comes up use it immediately; make sure you have a single hotkey which incorporates counters, finishers, and Vex/malice or you could miss important DPS contributions; keep torture up; and use your rescues.

Until they fix us that is the formula I have found to work.

If you have a competent group you will tank well, and they can go full DPS.

PS: You really don't need to tank on 3-dots or lower. If that offensive fighter wants to pull aggro let him. When he dies he'll stop. If your healers are fine with it then just let it go.

Use rescues whenever you can, and make sure your group knows you are using them. I use /ttd to send a tell to the person I am rescuing. I cannot tell you how many casters and healers have thanked me after groups because they know I am doing my job even if stuff is broken with the class.
