The Damage Spread? Where is it!?
So I am pushing through level 15 at the moment and I am really getting tired of a certain trend that I am noticing here... and that is a complete lack of damage spread. I am fighting a yellow con 2 dot mob and EVERY SINGLE hit is 42 damage, 42 damage, 42 damage. I am wondering if the days of spike damage and uncertainty are gone forever, or does it get better later on in the game? I want the days of Avatar of War where he could hit you for 400 damage, or he could hit for 1400 damage, without considering critical damage. Do they double attack, or have special abilities like the old Rampage and Flurry days? I mean come on! If the mobs damage is predicable, then all people will have to do is account for that damage then offset it by the appropriate amount of healing.
Any insight into this will be greatly appreciated. I can say for certain right now, if the only difference between level 15 and level 50 is the difference between getting hit over and over again for 42 damage and 420 damage... I will hang up my swords right now.

Well I am only level 15 and my gear is just the stuff a person gets for doing the quests up to that level. I have not one piece of rare armor or special drops. I got a couple high AC pieces from the Heavy Armor Vendor, but my mitigation in offensive stance is only like 11% according to the tool tip. I thought the same thing at first, but I have been seeing this trend 100% since I started. It seems like they just have a static damage (IE 100 damage for melee attack) and that is then reduced by whatever your mitigation is).

I don't know about you, but mine are. My Vexing Strike II, 86 damage, every time. My Malice II, also 86 damage every time with my current weapon. I do seem to get a little bit of a spread on my melee damage, but honestly I don't watch it as closely as I do my ability damage. I can understand certain abilities doing set amounts of damage but I mean damn, mine and theirs is so predictable it is boring. Even the ability descriptions claim they do between X and Y damage, yet mine seem to all do the same.
I know that if I hit Vexing Strike, I will see 86 fly over the mobs head, be it even level, blue, green, or red. If it hits, it is 86 damage. The only thing that seems to be different is my DoT damage. Everything after the initial tick is the same, but the initial tick on Torture ranges from like 22 to 40, as I think it should... maybe melee damage isn't scaling properly, but spell damage is?

I was talking about my Vexing Strike, not the mobs. I was comparing our damage output to theirs, and it also seems fairly static. I will look at it closer later on. Perhaps I am imagining things.

I always hit for an average of what you're saying you hit for every time.
If I hit 10 times, it would be: X, X+1, X, X, X-1, X+2, X, X, X-2, X Or something like that. Most attacks are spot on, some are varied, but usually end up at the right number. I think BG got a little confused because your example of AoW hitting you for X or Xx3 was of you getting hit... On my Monk, Boundless Fists (equivalent to Vexing) would vary at lvl 20 about 6 or 7 delineations one way or another. And usually hit fr exactly what it was supposed to. Crits are sporadic though, and can be anything you can think of. That's how I like it. Predictable hits, and un-predictable crits. For thos enot just joining beta...legendary crits are VERY fun. -Eclipse

OK! For clarity sake I will add this.
My initial post was about MOBS hitting ME. My reply to BigGino about: Quote:
I am seeing a consistent damage spread both ways, me hitting them and them hitting me.
