DK - new info?

Now that Beta 5 is up and running what have you found to work for lvl 1-8? How many of you are actively taking the tank role, or dps role? How many of you have tried to tank w/o a shield?

How easy is grabbing agro?

Are you making weapons and armor or buying from vendor?

I lvled a Vulamne DK from 1-9 over saturday and sunday. I had a pretty easy time with the quests and obtaining 12s by lvl 8. At which I purchased a long sword and shield to continue fighting in the bloodcaves.

At which point I watched what was a fantastic ride come to a screaching halt. Between the trains, characters not understanding pulling, and general idiocy my cave adventures was nothing more than a constant CR.

So i continued north and solo'd more on earthbinders. All in all have been having a great time.

Well the biggest problem I have in the dungeons. at about level 11 I went to the hive and I didn’t like that when I saw chunks crash there where level 18+ waiting to run into the dungeon and kill the named/s to get the loot, while 3 groups where waiting outside for member to arrive and such.
also happened at kvsarvi gulch in that we had cleared all the way up to a named scorpion and while we were dealing with a few little mobs, another group was heeling us ( behind us the whole way) decided that while we were busy on our current target they deserved the named scorpion mob.
Ironically the game was kewl up until I was required to interact more with other players. Most of the people are elitists that camp low level named mobs to sell to the players they "stole" from for one hell of a price.
I am a blacksmith and the weapons i'm making are good but not really of any use. at a 17 DK I have no use for level 11 crafter items, and I cant be a 17 crafter 11 dk because then I cannot get to the ores I need.
I have come across no quest that says what level it is, found myself on several occasions taking a quest at 15 killing level 8-11 mobs.
As a 17dk I can tank pretty well (sword/shield all the time), the aggro gain is a problem or it could have been the people I was with. In my armor of darkness (+30% aggro) I couldn’t get back/take aggro from a level 20 monk PERIOD. provoke, word athen, malice, torture, if he hit it, I just moved on to the next pull cuz my role was done.
Trains...yeah. if you make one be prepared to run.....long. I swear to god I’ve seen some crazy things come outta kvsarai gulch and IF you make it out you still have to run along way. even after you leave the gulch you 'll have to out run any rams/beetles you pick up just trying to get out (if you get out, most trains stop at 5 cuz mobs can hit)

I was really on board with this game until recently. for something to brag about being a 3rd gen MMO, they are going back to 1st gen basics and smearing the hell out of them.

Levels 1-10 aren't that great for grouping. Once you get over 10 you will see the grouping pick up but it is still in it's beginning stages. After 20 grouping will flow alot better and people should understand their roles and abilities more by then.

I started off as a DK. The one thing I noticed the most when grouping (as well as many other people), was that aggro management was poor for DK's. They could take a hit well enough, and have some nice abilities, but aggro management is suffering. The dev's, however, are aware of this, and DK's are supposed to get looked at and given a revamp.

So far we are seeing what happens when a lot of people that are not used to tougher MMO games are forced to actually work together as a team for more than just getting into an instance due to group size requirements. I am not bashing "WOW kiddies" or anything, but it has been a while since the challenging days of EQ1 and a lot of people have forgotten how to fight in a game like this. It will get better in the higher levels because I have a funny feeling the first 20 levels will do a lot to weed out the people that want an easy ride and don't fancy the challenge of tactical grouping. This is one of the main reasons I intend to stick with Vanguard.
