Dread Knight secret sauce!!!
Darrin McPherson (Talisker) gave me some pretty exciting information today at the Fanguard.
We have speculated on how the Dread Knight's ability to inspire fear in his opponents will be handled. Well, now we know! Dread Knights have an ability called Dreadful Countenance. This is always active. When he is in combat with a mob, the mob will be afraid and will suffer reductions in its combat ability (debuff). The longer the mob is in combat with the Dread Knight, the worse the fear becomes, and the more effect the fear has on its ability to fight. There are currently 5 levels of this fear. And at the highest levels, the fear extends to additional mobs. This ability is NOT dependent on the Dread Knight having aggro... he just needs to be in combat with the mob... so it works even if the Dread Knight is not the main tank. This ability does not generate aggro. This is better than I had dared hope for. I thought the Dread Knight would have debuffs to simulate the fear effect... but an always active ability is a much better solution that keeps more in character. I love it! |

This news, plus the devastating "ball-dropping" of the Inquisitor class...actually may be shifting my decision towards that of the Dread Knight.
It's bitter-sweet, because on one hand I think I'm going to be resentful I won't have the Inquisitor, but on the other hand the DreadKnight will be very good as well. I'm all about striking fear in my opponents, and this is probably the one piece of news I can take out of this so far with a smile. -Eclipse

Maybe I'm slow... All my talk of chaos, and fearing me, and being scary, etc...kinda falls right into the DreadKnight idea anyway. Going from "Inquisitor or bust" to "DreadKnight will do" isn't that far of a stretch. ![]() -Eclipse

The thing that really had me looking at the Inquisitor was the fact that it was somthing new and not just a semi-new spin on a class that's been done over and over again in several games. With the new info on Dread Knights available I think the class will be unique enough to keep me happy. -Kash I just wanted to add a thanks for getting all the great info from the Fanguard. I'm even more excited than before for release. |
