Re: The Mysterious Dread Knight

I think of the Dread Knight as a "black" Paladin. The Paladin class will most likely to be unavailable to Dark Elves, goblins and Orcs equally Dread Knights will be unavailable to Elves, Dwarves and Halflings.

So take the paladin and reverse the abilities. Paladins help their party by raising moral, Dread Knights harm their foes by lowering moral.

Yeah, DK sounds like fun, the running debuff in combat from dreadfull contenance sounds cool, plus the ability to tank and take alot of hits should make for a fun class, not only can you stand in and take the punishment, but look scary doing it
I think I may have to go dwarf DK

If I wanted to be quirky and cheesy, I could be CK the DK. But I'm more liable to go Bard or Monk

Don't make such plans now or else you might set your self up for disapointment. The class/race combination list posted is the result of the fanguards people using the character select screen to select the different races and see what classes came up. The game is still in an early beta so it is very likely to change before the game goes live.

Re: The Mysterious Dread Knight

While I've never really been a tank, in any MMO, I'd like to see the Dread Knight be more than "just a warrior", if they plan on making them not Shadow Knights from EQ1.

I'm curious to see if the ability lines that Dread Knights and Paladins get will really differentiate them in both playstyle and mechanics to a warrior; or if they will just feel like a warrior in a different skin.

WoW did this nicely, as far as Warriors/Paladins go, to not make the two feel similar, but Vanguard doesn't want the Paladin of Dread Knight to be hybrids any longer, but pure tanks.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

This is the thing in the DK that excites me the most : being a real tank, but not a warrior ... A new and cool sensation

I can't wait for creating my character

Re: The Mysterious Dread Knight

Interesting new info at yahoo games about vanguard, I also remember reading somewhere in a dev post that DK will have a variety of kick attacks, and the yahoo article lists kicks as the main attack response to try to throw spell caster out of a cast. Maybe DK will be nice in mage combat? I would love to just plant a boot right in the cocky little kisser of a mage next time he tries to lay a fireball down on me or mine...

Re: The Mysterious Dread Knight

Welcome Nerual - it's a pleasure to meet you in this fine thread.

On-topic, thing is... You can kick to interrupt a spell, yes - but what about that nice combo you've got going? As your Perception skill gets better you'll know what spells your opponent is casting - so, if you see this giant fireball about to be thrown, you might plant a boot right in the cocky little kisser of a mage, but if it's just a humble icebolt, you might as well just finish your chain of attacks and hurt him big-time!
