SoE is nothing more than a middle-man in this deal. All the conspiracy theories in the world will not change that.

Seriously though, so far SOE can only be blamed (indirectly) for the premature launch of Vanguard. I say "blame", because they could have chosen to send Sigil some cash to keep them in beta for another month or two. Obviously, nothing in their contractual agreement forced them to do so -- although a stronger launch NOT at the same time as Blizzard's game would have made more financial sense.

A friend of mine summed it up nicely a few weeks ago. He said people were willing to put up with crashes, horrible lag, and having to play with all the settings turned down for Star Wars: Galaxies, because it had a classless system (unique at the time), the most in-depth crafting system, and the Star Wars franchise. Nowadays, people are more jaded and expect things to work perfectly out of the box.

Doom and gloom aside, I'm having a great deal of fun playing this game, even though I still think it'll be another month before it reaches the state the devs WANTED it to be at by launch. So much fun, in fact, that I've even suspended my EVE account for the first time in 2 years (training a month-long skill, of course), as I haven't logged into it since early February.
