Hey Everyone,
Guess what the PS3 is going to be released tommorow! Wallmart in CA had to close down because apparantly people were trying to raid their stocks to find out if they had already received the ps3 consoles lol...get this some companies are even reserving security forces to protect shipments incase LOL..Well this reminds me of the tickle me elmo's phenomemon lol although i understand the ps3 complication more then the elmo one lol. (who cares about a tickle me elmo anyway) |

Re: Ps3 Launch Count Down
Who cares about tickle me Elmo, little kids do , little kids do....Anyway I could care less about being the first person to get a new system I never understood why it was so important to get a system when it first releases... most likely you're getting way excited about the first system that has tons of bugs that later editions won't have. I will be getting a PS3 when they release specific titles that I really MUST have but until then I really could care less. As for them raiding Walmarts to get the system that's pretty sad, when supply and demand for a stupid system sends geurilla shoplifters to raid stores for a system that is really showing an all time low in society. Either way thanks for sharing that bit of news Wakygreek that made me laugh a bit, raiding walmart ha!

Re: Ps3 Launch Count Down
They've been camping the Walmarts and GameStops and everywhere around here. WalMart told me that they aren't getting as many systems as they were told, but couldn't tell me how many, so it's going to be a battle!
There are something like 24 titles launching with the system, and some are really good, from what I've been told by the "experts" (late teen/early 20-yr olds), so it's in high demand. My son's gf is one that is camped out and has been since last night. Interesting things, eh? Strange, but interesting! OH...and about Elmo.... The new THX is going faster than Tickle Me, and Walmart is out of stock on those, too! Has been for a few weeks now. Anyone remember Power Rangers? ![]()

Re: Ps3 Launch Count Down
I think people remember the PS2 launch well enough to know what to expect. Not as crazy as that or Tickle Me Elmo I think.
But hey, how about that line for the Wii, eh? The one that sends more than 10 people home happy? ![]() I will violate my rule of not buying a console at release to get my Zelda on. I will buy PS3 in a year or so when supply is better and the second generation of PS3 games hits... if said games catch my eye. Hopefully by then the problems I've read about will be ironed out... though I doubt Sony will pony up and create a unified online experience like they ought to have.

Re: Ps3 Launch Count Down
The best was the Cabbage Patch Dolls. I could be wrong but I belive they started the whole lets go crazy over some product that does not have enough product for the shelves. I remember people selling then for hundreds of dollars before Christmas.

Re: Ps3 Launch Count Down
Well, I'm heading off right now to pick mine up haha... No lines for me, just in and out.
Coin, I'm going to edit your post to just link to the picture. Kinda stretching the boundaries there, despite it just being your post. I dunno about as big a craze as Tickle-Me-Elmo, since it's not exactly a toy, and costs several hundreds of dollars more. Wii might stand up to be that craze, but there's not going to be a severely limited number of those with 4 mill shipping within the remainder of the year.

Re: Ps3 Launch Count Down
I think Sony def has some problems to iron out, but i have faith that they will do pretty well with their system after about a year. I read a story that someone had posted about their xbox 360 crashing due to a software update, and then when the person went to call for help on the 1-800 line they told them they were past their 3 month warranty lol and would cost 140 to repair. Anyway ill try and find the link and post it if you guys want to read it.
Edit: here is the link for the xbox 360 issue http://xbox.ign.com/articles/745/745707p1.html Edit2: ok here is a web link that i saw in the news, and thought it was kinda sad..someone actually shot someone for the ps3 or for money on them heres the link http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news...s=bos&psp=news Last edited by Wakygreek : 11-17-2006 at 12:52 PM. |

My Tickle Me Elmo story
I don't remember the exact year, but I think it was 1998 as I was in "The Nav" at the time, when my son asked me for a "Melmo". I knew what he wanted a Tickle Me Elmo so I called up my friend Gary for his wife worked at the local Toys R Us.
This story is rated PG. No cursing or nasty content. "Gary, does Paula know anything about Tickle Me Elmo Dolls?" "Dude, I am not tell you anything." His wife asked who it was on the phone and when she found out it was me, she popped on the phone and said, "Andrew, I can neither confirm nor deny that the Toys R Us store on Lynnhaven Avenue will have four pallets of Tickle Me Elmo dolls by the bike section on Christmas Eve Day at 6:30PM." "Thanks Paula!" I rolled into the store about 30 minutes early and started scouting the store. The place was a mad house. In almost every isle people were complaining about the shortage of Tickle Me Elmo dolls. People were buying other gifts for their troops (kids) and in general, it was like a pirhana pool. Someone would by a Lego kit and people would snatch them up just because other people were buying them and not really knowing it wasn't that big of a deal. By about 6:15 PM I was "on station" by the bikes as these 3 teenagers started rolling out these pallets of cardboard boxes, painted out, and they lined them up, just as Paula had foretold. People saw me standing around the bikes and asked what was in the boxes. I simply gave some BS Scrouge answer and they walked away. About 1 minute til "H-Hour" Paula and her 3 minions were by the boxes. Then, it happened........ "ATTENTION TOYS R US SHOPPERS. WE HAVE FOUR BOXES OF TICKLE ME ELMO DOLLS BY THE BIKES......" Sheer Pandamonium. I was first in line, however, this big dude, at least 6'7, 300 pounds with about 3% body fat cut in front of me. I looked at him and said, "Dude, you are my blocker after you get yours." He responded with a nod. He reaches in the first box to pull out a doll when this 4'9 guy snatches it right out of his hands! The guy draws his arm back like he is going to punch him and he cowers away. The pushing and shoving was just stupid. I have never seen adults revert to such children so quickly. I can remember hearing some kids crying saying, "ELMO! ELMO! I WANT ELMO!" So the big goes to get another doll, and this lil dude grabs a second doll from his hand. Well, this time he decided to take action. We all have moments engraved in our minds of things that we will never forget. The guy draws his arm back and procedes to punch this guy in the face. But he just didn't go for contact. He punched "through" this guys face. It took less than a second, but it seemed like it took 5 minutes. I can remember seeing this guy's fist rip though the guys face and it pushed his nose to his right cheek. I could describe the rest, "The Mist" and such. But all I rememeber is the screaming and the parents literally fighting eachother for a frigging doll. The employees feared for their lives and people just helped themselves. I never ended up getting a doll. I think I was in shock from "The Hit". I have seen some crazy things in my life, but this was the most crazy thing I ever saw.
