I think alot of people loved FF7 for the very same reason I loved Phantasy Star 2 - it was the first RPG they really got into.

Re: Favorite Rpg of all time.
None of my favourites are on the list. Except for FFT. But it doesn't make my big Top 3:
(Also, none of the Zelda games are RPGs... they're called Action/Adventure) Vagrant Story Best RPG that I've played, with my favourite story and characters. I came for the art and story, and stayed for the gameplay and weapon creation/tinkering which I still play around with to this day. Skies of Arcadia Something about exploring uncharted lands just struck the right nerve with me. Wonderful characters, battles, music, and a carefree yet focused story with pretty bombastic airship battles that kept me at the edge of my seat. Xenogears Since I am a self-professed Xeno-nerd with nearly every facet of Perfect Works memorized and posessing the ability to recite most any plot/character detail in the monolith of a game, I'd say it ranks up there in my faves. I still remember checking out this shoddy resolution video capture of a controversial title "Zenogiasu" that almost didn't get brought to the US because of its religious themes. And now look at RPGs today, killin' god all over the place.

Re: Favorite Rpg of all time.
Well no, PSU has a lot going for it.
For starters, there's a 40-hour single-player RPG with cutscenes and the like which uses the online game's combat engine (or vice-versa). It's quite enjoyable (I'm playing the Japanese version currently) and sets up the storyline for the online missions. And then online mode has a lot of MMO-influenced aspects. There's four planets you can travel between, all of which have non-instanced cities where everyone can hang out, socialize, form parties, trade/sell items, etc. And then every player gets their own apartment where they can place items, redecorate, customize their personal pet called a "PM", craft items from materials found out in the world, change clothes, set up a persistant shop, etc. -- You can also visit other peoples' rooms and hang out. Then of course there's the meat of the game which is missions -- Instead of just going to a dungeon and grinding through the swath until you reach a boss, there's a bunch of missions to do ala Guild Wars which pits you and your party (of up to 6 members) through a series of goal-oriented areas. There are the big epic bosses too though So while PSO might have taken direct influence from Diablo, Universe really has opened up the game a whole lot more to be something of its own.

edit: Sorry, I don't know why I didn't bugger off to find my own information. A PC version is a good step. And now I'm reading about it, and thinking... Darn you, CK.

Re: Favorite Rpg of all time.
It was hard to choose I picked Chrono triger first then HAD to pick zelda I thought one would cross off the other and I hit the button then realized that they were both picked.
I almost went with FFX. As a series I like FF it best. Then Zelda. Chrono Trigger/Cross were decent as individual games though and thats why I hemed and hawed on my choice. Rao
