Re: Which of the new Consoles do you prefer and why?

Man I hope it is not the end of Sony. Who would be the publisher of VG if that happened? All those facets to a company, hingeing on one monumental launch date.

Haha, Sony's in no position to die out. They still have plenty of stuff other than consoles that they assuredly make money on

It wont be pretty if it falls flat on its face though. With all the trouble their batteries are causing them that would be a very bad year for the books.

Maybe not die out, but I do believe it would be the end of Sony as we know it. If the PS3 fails, expect to see Sony parcelled out, massive layoffs, etc.

Don't forget, also, that if the PS3 fails, then HDDVD will probably beat out Blu-Ray, and that's an even bigger loss for Sony. There is alot tied to this.

Well i thought that sony was also overlooking the vanguard project as well, isnt that the case? Although if i may say i think the two biggest obstacles for vanguard will be WOW and Warhammer, in fact from my friend side and gamers i know most people seem to be looking into warhammer, however im arguing with them to take a look at vanguard to because of its relation to the original eq.

Thing about with Warhammer though is that is a totally different kind of MMO. They are concentrating on the RvR/PvP aspect. They will have limited crafting and I am not sure how much exploration will be had when most zones will have some form of PvP in them. It does sound like a very good game, but it is taking a different approach than VG. I have been following both of these games and I was really excited about WAR. I am starting to lean towards VG more now though, mainly because it appeals to me more. If your friends are into PvP, VG may be a hard sell, only because there will not be a huge emphasis on PvP in VG.

I still hope they go more for VG over warhammer, while both MMO's look good a MMO that promotes more adventure and group mechanics is better imo.

Re: Which of the new Consoles do you prefer and why?

I posted this over at another fourm I frequent, but it applies to this thread especially:

PS3 will start off slow, but eventually gain momentum in 6mos.-1year when its heavy-hitting titles start coming out. It's got a lot of franchise momentum built up, and with its new processing horsepower there's going to be a lot of developers looking to do brand new things with the system as well. I'd say there's a ton of potential, and in the end the big chunky games are going to gravitate towards it.

Wii will likely lead the pack in Japan and possibly the US from the get-go and grow the gamespace world-wide tremendously. More people will start gaming, which will also help out the other consoles if people start looking for other types of gaming experiences other than what the Wii will offer. There's currently a stigma in developers that seems to think that the Wii is for light, casual, and party games. It certainly is a great place for them, but for the Wii to completely dominate the realm of games, the same level of deep gameplay will need to be focused on by certain developers to round out the playstyles of people that would buy the system. However, as many things such as the DS Touch Generations games or even World of Warcraft have proved: Getting non-gamers to game means tremendous success, and Wii looks like it will devliver on that front.

Xbox360 on the other hand, wants to do a lot of things. It wants to involve every gamer, as they said in press conferences leading up to the console's launch. They talked about getting people interested in gaming because of their Live! service and gamertags, but so far it seems to be doing the same old as the Xbox before it. That's not bad, because the Xbox is still a success in the US. But it's not going to grow the gamespace as much as the Wii will. The 360 also wants to appeal to Japan and get their support. And so far it has the attention of one developer, Mistwalker, which is certainly comprised of heavy-hitters but is also developing its debut games for the 360. This means one of two things: Either the games it develops will be a huge success and get Japanese gamers hooked on the console, or they will be a mild success due to low interest in the system and then Mistwalker will move on to other things. They're certainly banking a ton on the quick-selling success of Toriyama's art style, reminding potential buyers of the success of Dragon Ball and Dragon Quest (a coincidence that the game is called Blue Dragon? I don't think so). If it succeeds, then there's definately going to be some good competition driving forth progressively better exclusives between the PS3 and 360, which will likely be healthy in the longrun.

Re: Which of the new Consoles do you prefer and why?

Just wanted to mention... I'm #5 out of 12 at my local EB for a PS3 Today was the do-or-die preorder date with at some parts even 100+ people lined up to preorder... that's usually what you preorder to avoid, so yeow. But the fact of the matter was, there's only something like 8-16 units alotted per store, making things absolutely crazy.

In my case, EB was in a mall, so no overnight lines could form. Got there an Hour+20min before opening, and the employee took our names down on a list so we could mingle, grab some coffee, etc. Overall a rather pleasant experience. Even met a guy who worked at Wizards of the Coast designing Magic expansion sets and has contacts in the videogame industry. Score.

I honestly have no desire for a PS3 at the moment. =/

It wierds me out when I see someone actually excited about it.
