Re: Real Magick?
I believe in the presence of Auras wholeheartedly. Not only have they been proved to exist but they are even measurable and can be influenced conciously. The real question is whether or not a person has the ability to weild said aura to do *something*.
I have a neat viewpoint regarding magic in general whereby, under this belief, all the various facets of fantasy fiction you can read about could exist in some parallel dimension just out of our reach. There is enough support for the presence of other dimensions in physics that magazines, such as Astronomy Magazine, have done articles on the possibility. If you are following what I've said so far, then you don't have to draw a far line to connect our world with another, through some form of phenomena (man made or naturally occuring.) Consider this and voila! Magic could exist (on some limited basis) and all this suddenly don't seem so unbelievable. I hope that wasn't too deep. But then again, you did ask. ![]() |

Re: Real Magick?
Ouch Mobius, of all people it had to be you huh. Well to be honest i don't really know much about Aleister Crowley as you might of realized from what i said about him earlier. I have heard of the guy but not much about him. Also i am kinda confused at exactly what it is you are saying... that i'm jumping to conclusions? Well, if you could clarify that i would appreciate it.

If I had to guess Gares, I think he was responding to this comment of yours.

Re: Real Magick?
I do believe there are things currently not known to mankind. But if something like magic excists... There are forms of telepathy and telekineses which will in due time imo completly be explained by science.
On the matter of ghosts I am not sure, I have a friend who sees "ghosts" and stuff like that. And I must say I do believe he really sees it, but if its real I wouldn't know. Perhaps its just him. Anyway I need prove of some sort before I believe. |

This was a difficult question to answer. I chose 'Yes', but for a different reason to what you may expect!
I don't believe in the 'flashy lights and make things go Boom' magick or even the 'win friends and influence people' charm-like magick but I believe it is something that comes from within ourselves. To me, Magick is something that surrounds us every single day - it's in the moments just before dawn, the time you spend with someone you love or standing in a field of wheat just before harvest with a warm summer breeze blowing. Magick is in our own minds - we make our own magick and it is as real as we wish it to be. If you can make some sort of sense from my rambles then you probably understand what I'm trying to say - it's not the easiest thing to put into words. Thanks for listening ![]() |

Re: Real Magick?
Here are my thoughts as a believing Christian:
1. if you define magick as anything outside of our 'science' (scientia (l) literally means knowledge) then there are certainly many things we do not know about. in the bible, the greek word for 'sorcery' (the type of stuff that is forbidden) is 'pharmakoi', which also means poison and medicine, as well as sorcery. in other words, the greeks knew that poison and medicine worked, but they did not have any understanding of how...thus, "eat this to cure you sickness" was 'magick' to them. (this is actually why some very unfortunate Christians believe that they should not take medicine). 2. CS Lewis correctly points out that it would be a contradiction to burn witches if you don't believe such a thing exists. the bible doesn't say that witches and sorcery aren't real, it says not to get involved with that sort of stuff. so...imo, depending on what EXACTLY you mean by 'magick' it is a very real, and very dangerous practice. putting your trust in magick (and yourself as its wielder) are putting a false god before the Lord. |

Re: Real Magick?
I'll respect that. Though to be quite honest, a lot of the "dangerous" stuff these days is just a bunch of kids with low self esteem believing in something mocked-up and supposedly empowering when it usually is just a scam and marketed to these folks that want to be different. Like the socially awkard teens that believe they're vampires for some obscure reason. It may be dangerous to themselves on a psychological level, but a vast majority get over it when they mature and move on to dealing with reality.
On the other hand, my sister is in the practice of herbology and communicating with the spirits of plants. Which falls into the "pharmakoi" deal you explained above. It's not 'traditional medicine' and falls more along the lines of the spiritual, yet by all means it ain't dangerous. She made a salve that helped heal up a pretty nasty cut a few months back, and has some pretty yummy tea mixtures So yeah, it's all about how you define things. And as a bit of a side note, there's people worshiping all sorts of things but still get lots of fulfillment out of their lives. As long as you've got something that sustains you spiritually, even if it's the lack of it that helps you get by.
