SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?
So what do you all think about the new partnership between SOE and Sigil?

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?
I have faith. If Sigil thinks that this is a better deal for them, I believe it.
People act like this is the end of the road for Vanguard, but I don't understand why. I've played EQ, PS and SWG. The service was actually better than what I experienced with WoW. I don't deny that people have had troubles with SOE in the past, but perhaps they are simply holding grudges against a company that was rather inexperienced in MMOs at the time? I'm sure most of these complaints date back many years, when EQ was still relatively new.

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?
I personally think that this is more than a little scary based on one reason. Look at the support (or lack there of) of the current stable of SOE games. The Matrix Online is so buggy, it's practically unplayable, and I won't rehash the well documented Star Wars problems. The support is not there for SWG and TMO; so much so that's it's actually appalling. I sincerely hope that Sigil will push to have a high level of accountability from Sony, or new subscribers could get turned off just by the process of being brought on board SOE.

And no, Brad is adamant that Exchange will never happen with Vanguard. He is not one to mince words, so I wouldn't assume there's some hidden meaning.

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?
Another misnomer is that grudges held against SoE are from years ago. This isn't so!
Most of the real issues started about 3 years ago, I'd guess. That was after SoE was firmly in control and Varant was long gone. For a while, they had decent ingame support, but as of a bit over a year (maybe 2 now...time flies) ago or so, that vanished, as well. Other than that, it's all been discussed, really. The more recent Exchange is a biggie, but I'm not concerned about Sigil participating. The only concern there I might have would be the thought of any partnership lending credence to the actions of SoE. Actually, if I had one major, off-the-wall hope for this, it would be that Smed and crew actually sees the animosity people actually feel about SoE and what they've done and chose to rethink their positions and do the right thing for their games and client base. Trust factor is down the tubes. It has to be earned back, and sometimes, that takes a bit of humble pie! But then, this is one, little branch of Sony...

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?
Meh I still play EQ2, and aside from them avoiding fixing known bugs, they do alright. They have the hardware to support Vanguard and the advertising dollars to get this product where they need/want it to be.
