Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

Much ado about nothing.

All the flack about how bad SOE is relates to games where they are active in development and CS. In the Vanguard/SOE partnership, SOE will not be active in either; they are only active in the publishing process (running the servers, distributing the software).

I also get a bit of a tickle from all the comments about how EQ was great while it was run by Verant, and how bad it got when SOE took over. Verant, however, was always an SOE company: lock, stock, and barrel. So even in the "golden days" of EQ, it was SOE.

Not in the beginning! That was about a year or more (I think) into launch.

But yes, you're correct about the other!!

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

I think SOE's attitude to players outside the US is a real problem since it relates to those area's such as servers, support and payment which will be under SOE's control. Brad I am sure wants an International client base but he will need to reassure the folks over here that things will improve.

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

Let's face it.....If SoE can set up and man a GM pool in India, they can jolly well get a couple of servers set up for Sigil and operate them! That's the biggest bunch of bunk ever! The best thing they ever did for the European market, they did away with in a short time. Lost some of the BEST GMs ever and nailed a complete player base shut, more or less.

Don't think Brad will stand for that kind of stuff, but we'll see what happens! I'm very hopeful.

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

Crushing my will to continue waiting for VSOH is what this development has done.
I was living SOE's SWG for a good two years when they slowly began tearing my heart out patch by patch, nerf by nerf.

If I have to make my payments to SOE then I may not be willing to play, let me make my payments to something else and you already have me sold.

Unfortunately, giving your money to SOE is exactly what you'll be doing. Sure, they'll (supposedly) give most of it to Sigil, but you'll be paying SOE. This whole mess is a done deal. It won't be changing.

Just take a deep breath, and forget about it, then come have some fun with us.

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

Right!

Let's put away our dislike and follow Brad & Co's vision and see where it goes. Then, later, if things fall apart, we can do what we need to do!

Personally, I think SoE should just be a publishing house and let the others actually make and support the games! Shoot...I don't care if they do tech and hosting, but do it right! Just stay OUT of the games themselves!!!

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

Brad has said repeatedly that we can vote with our wallets, but i just dont know why SOE is so bad. Every game i have ever played gets patched and patches by definition change the game. Perception of that change is purely a matter of opionion.

How SOE has handled games is not my point.

I just dont know why people wont or are so resistant to even considering Vanguard as a new and possibly enjoyable experience. Giving Vanguard a chance is not endorsing SOE it is endorsing SGO. Everyone is going to be playing a game created by SGO - who does the paperwork is not my concern - my concern is how im enjoying the game.

Re: SOE and Vanguard: Whats YOUR take?

I guess it comes down to commitment. Its not cash that counts but time. I will invest a lot of my spare time playing a MMORPG. Building my character. I will care a great deal about how Vanguard develops especially if I am looking to spend 5+ years in game.

I played AC2 which Microsoft meddled with until Turbine dumped them. The game never really recovered.

I never played SWG but it seems SOE meddled in that game. EQ2 I feel was in part rescued by SOE who took action to prevent the game hitting the rocks. Unfortunately the action was to make to game easier to solo, the very thing that the core of Vanguard fans fear the most.

I have "nailed my colors to the mast" I am sticking with Vanguard but I will be keeping my fingers crossed that if the player numbers drop Sigil have the resources to take appropriate action without needing SOE to rescue the game.
