Any Java™ developers out there?

Just wondering. I'm not a professional or anything, but I've been using the language for five-six years now for various projects, my current one being the bigger one so far: a collection of interoperable web application modules based on Apache Tapestry (view), Apache HiveMind (logic), and Hibernate (model).

I eventually hope to become a software engineer working in the J2EE-space.

So, anyone else out there?

I cannot face learning any more languages . Assembler, Cobol, Lisp, Algo, Basic, C, Fortran, postscript and a load of command level languages.. more than enough for one lifetime. I break out in a sweat just looking at screens of unknown code.

Re: Any Java™ developers out there?

Closest I get is a little Javascript and alot of PHP. I wish Java wasnt such a "heavy" language. It can do some amazing stuff but it oftentimes takes forever to load and loves to crash and eat up all your RAM and lag your browser.

Amen.

I'm an AP Comp Sci student. AP level of that dicipline is all about Java...I really don't like it much.

Re: Any Java™ developers out there?

I just finished my first semester of Java. I can't do much as of now, but I think that will change after one more semester.

I left University knowing less than when i started. i didn't follow my own advice for 3 years, so perhaps other will listen

Unless you have an amazing teacher/lecturer you really need to teach yourself. go find a great online source, a highly recomended book. start your own projects to teach yourself what it is you study.

it will make a world of difference between knowing enough to pass exams and knowing enough to get a good job.
