Re: Any Java™ developers out there?
Well, I don't know Java *that* well, however my associates degree is in software engineering and I am almost done with my bachelors degree in game software development. Generally, if you ask me after all the training i've received you can almost handle any programming language as long as you have half a brain and can read manuals. Infact, my teacher even told me that above the bachelor level in my field is more about theory and algorithms than it is actually learning the languages.
And if you have logic and are capable of figuring things out on your own and can read someone elses articles/books/etc and understand what they are doing, you don't even need to really know the language that well if you can figure it out in a reasonable amount of time. It's just better to be more experienced in an area because then you can work off memory instead of having to take a couple hours to read on how it's done.

Re: Any Java™ developers out there?
Nabren you know when you are fluent in a computer language when you can think in it and reading someone elses code is as easy as reading a newspaper.
You are correct though, all languages have one thing in common. Logic. Its just the syntax that you have to learn.. |

Re: Any Java™ developers out there?
i don't "want" you too, just a suggestion if this is the sort of thing you want to do for a career. its just good practice and they cover a useful things. if you prefer directx programming, i think nexe.gamedev.net is the web address.
what I covered at university was to work on developing and creating our own modeling program. from there you can work towards creating a basic game engine. I've forgot most of it myself, as well as all the useful links i once had. |

Re: Any Java™ developers out there?
How rude of me... I ask a question and then I disappear for more than a month! Tsk tsk...
But here I am, back on the forums after what I'll refer to as some very, very busy weeks. I'll graduate soon, so there's naturally some studying and stuff, but then I've also been working and doing other things. I should probably comment on some of what's been said, but I have an appointment in half an hour, so I'll be doing that later. EDIT: I need healing! |
