Artificing is disappointing
Smiths make armor and weapons that are really nice and very desirable.
Outfitters make armor and bags that are really nice and very desirable. Artificers make jewelry that isn't anywhere near as nice as what you can get from drops and stone weapons that aren't anywhere near as good as what weaponsmiths can make. I'm giving serious thought to changing my craft, and no, I'm not joking. I'm only wearing one piece of jewelry that I made. The rest is drops -- drops that are about the same item level as the jewelry I can make but which are much nicer. At least if I changed to outfitting/leatherworking I could make stuff I'll actually wear. I'm deeply disappointed in my craft.

Re: Artificing is disappointing
I've thought this for some time -- artificing seems to be the least fleshed-out of the three professions. I know they get most of the big-ticket makings like houses and boats, but there's some satisfaction lost in not being able to make as much "normal" stuff as blacksmiths and outfitters can.
As a matter of interest, do you get much in the way of furniture recipes as a mineralogist?

Re: Artificing is disappointing
Just stick with it. Minerology needs love as it seems (though I don't know for sure) as if it is the last tradeskill they put in and also seems to get looked at last. Mostly you get stuck as a house building slave. You get a few furniture pieces like fireplaces and jugs but not nearly as many as carpenters.
Because you don't make cool weapons or armor or bags or whatever and because houses aren't really a necessary thing at this point (where are storage boxes?!) it's hard to come by mineralogists. Given some dev love though I can easily see after you get new stuff patched in people will be looking for you like crazy. Probably the best things you can make like this are damage focus items, which are very desirable. But yeah, I guess if you don't like making houses, it would suck. People are going to really want houses as soon as storage boxes go in and that can potentially make you a LOT of cash. |

Re: Artificing is disappointing
You're right, Geck -- if my memories of beta are accurate, artificing was implemented later than the other two and may still be on the line for some serious love*. I'm also sure the crafting team know what profs may have weaknesses; as the game and its economy settle, we may see lots of bits and pieces added. I think right now they're still trying to iron out any major kinks that crop up.
* as opposed to frivolous love, of course. ![]()

Re: Artificing is disappointing
I'm pretty sure that the devs knows about it, they prefer nerf over make stuff really uber.. So it will take some time I'm sure they have the expertise to make this game right. I'm just worry we will lose lots of players because bugs/performance..

And it makes me feel terrible that my smithing friends can make me items that are far better than anything I can kill for, but what I can make for them in return is pretty well pathetic.

Re: Artificing is disappointing
Artificers glory is in the making of many other things that are not as apparant in game as weapons and armor are at this time.
Have no fear that you will be just as if not more valued as a craftsperson as the other styles. Houses, Boats... etc |

Re: Artificing is disappointing
Yeah TBH I became an artificer to be able to make bows / bolts / arrows and whatnot for myself. With the added hope of being able to craft some other cool stuff. Outside of the bows & things, there isn't much I have interest in crafting up to level 16 so far.
