Do items need to have durability?
I was thinking about this while making some saddlebags.
I think we need some sort of durability for items like it used to be in DAoC and other MMOs. In a way that certain items can decay and be destroyed overtime permanently. Why? Let us use bags and other non-Soulbound items out there as an example for this topic. Now let us travel in time to 5 years from now theoreticly. At around that time, there will be enough bags and other non-soulbound items in circulation for EVERY player and possibly 10 or more alts in circulation. Because there will be so many made already, the market will be over-saturated and there will be no more reason to make them. Because of this, thats 1 more item not going to be crafted EVER. Now lets think about if you have reached the level cap. You have finally bought ALL your crafted gear. That character will no longer NEED to buy anything else for the life of that character because his items lives forever! Am I the only one seeing a problem with this and the current system in Vanguard? It just looks like it may cause a problem in the long term is all.

Re: Do items need to have durability?
Long, loooong-standing debate, especially over at Vanguard Crafters. What usually gets mentioned sooner or later, as I'm about to do, is that Mr McQuaid absolutely DOES NOT like item decay. Which means we're very, very unlikely ever to see it in Vanguard.
My opinion is that it would solve an absolute host of problems, and that you can *so* easily work around the negative scenarios Brad quotes. You can flag certain items so they don't decay (bound or not). You can flag *soulbound* items so they don't decay. You can... and so on. But I'm not holding my breath. This is an item-centric game (read : loot uber alles) and one without meaningful decay (read : welcome to the glut) and since both these principles are dear to the heart of the prime instigator, they're not going to change anytime soon.
