can't raise second harvest skill over 215

I am currently a miner/quarrier. My mining is currently stuck at 215 mining, I am assuming that is max for that level, but when I bought the next level book I get an error message saying I am missing a character flag. I am sitting at about 250 quarying, and was curious if the reason I can't improve my mining was that I could only have one harvesting skill above 215 (apprentice lvl I think). Or am I bugged?

You might be - but we may need more data... so pardon what might sound like patronising or stupid questions.

-- You're harvesting the right tier of resources to get points? You'll need to mine iron and above -- tin will only take you to 220 max (though I find it odd that you're stuck at 215);
-- What's your harvesting skill? It shouldn't matter, but it's worth looking at anyway;
-- What tools are you using? Again I was under the belief you can use anyold tool but I'm not so certain of that now.

Yes I have been harvesting iron, and have failed to get a single skill up for about the last 30 or so mining attempts.

Sorry hit submit to soon, my harvesting is at 311, mining 215, quarrying 243, quarying skill ups happen just about every time, for mining I am mining iron using a basic apprentice pickaxe, no skill ups in 30 + attempts

It's remotely possible not to get a skillup in 30 attempts, though I'll admit it's not very likely. I'm not sure what to suggest.

Since you're still at 215 mining you could try mining tin for a bit -- if nothing else it might be easier to find and you should still be able to skill up off it. Some say the cutoff is 225 but in my experience it's been 220 (base skill) - either way, you should have at least 5 more pickupable points.

I had this problem and found that it was because I had not bought the 185 skill book. Even without the book I could mine Iron even without the book, but at 215 skill ups stopped. Once I bought/used the 185 book skillups started again.

yes I think this is the right answer..

You CAN harvest the next tier of resource with the correct harvesting stat, but you need to read the book, which seems to give you the additional 'specific' harvesting cap.

They really do need to put skill bars on harvesting like they do with adventuring, crafting and diplomacy.. so you can see how far you have got to skill up.
