Oh the joys of Cooking
I know - we really - REALLY do not need another craft out there - but honestly - I want to be a chef - for no other reason than role-playing.
I have a dwarven cleric that I want to make a chef... see... she is the cook, in a bar... that was built by her long time adventuring companion... *HE* gets to be a LUMBERJACK and an artificer.... *kicks the dirt* I just wanna cook...even though, you know, I have no good reason to add it...

Re: Oh the joys of Cooking
Actually, keep that idea handy.
The devs have promised us Alchemy. Brewing is only a stone's throw away from potion making. If you can make consumable potions and drinks, could food be far behind? /me can't wait for the blacksmith crafting recipie for the Grillmaster 5000! |

Re: Oh the joys of Cooking
I was rather hoping for a little more freedom in the crafting, I like the set up and system, it's smart, ..and you can appricaiate the work you put in, and the rewards as you go along (even without big broker sales) at least will make you a profit equal to on level adv. grinding (well a little less and not counting drops)
but, a few more schools of choice would be great. I like hte idea of cooking, esp. fantasy cooking...if you eat a wyvern heart, it might kill you, it might turn you into a wyvern, it might make you sexually attractive to goblins...ya just never know. and with a real cooking/brewing school, it'd let people turn thier homes into bars/resturants, it'd be a little boring in some ways waiting for customers, but the RP stuff would be fun as heck. I miss alchemy, a reliable supply of potions is something every adventurer shoudl have...if they can't put a halfling cleric in thier backpack. I always wanted to see farming as a tradeskill, to grow crops of useful resources of reaping and food use, kinda your own private stash cuz after all if you were going to invest in learning how to make the Lotus-of-the-Harvest-for-the-big-tonker, wouldn't you really ensure you could grow the lotus yourself? a side shoot of this is growing your own flowers that could be woven into clothing used in brewing, ..it's a fantasy world, how come every designer treats it like it's still the gary gygax graduate school? you could also do animal husbandry, --mounts, pets (non combat), material for cooks/brewers/alchemists/furriers, if you did it right you could "build" blood lines of various players to mix with other blood lines to produce the super mounts of tommorow. It doesn't need to be limited to camels and horses, I personally would love to work on a bunny ranch, --for gnomeish chariots, really . this is turning the thread just a bit, but put extreme sports into the games, --like dragon skiing, if you can sail down its back, bounce off it's nose and nail the landing, you get the totally awesome buff. Wyvern bunji....just make sure your dwarven wyvern driver has 20/20 vision and good depth perception..and knows how to measure bunji. Catapult hanggliding, where the wings pop open at the apex of the shot upwards, then you gently sail down add some fire bombs, and you got an orcish wedding right there. and think of the sidebets us old farts could make on the kids just by saying "you can't do that"....the looting rights alone would make midas weep for the avarice (and btw, it's not taking advantage of the youthful and courageous, it's teaching them to be old and cautious). |

Re: Oh the joys of Cooking
farming (both plant and animal) would be awesome, but i could see that land could be a problem, right now all of the plots are housing ones, if some where turned into farming or if you used the housing plots for farming aswell, it seems like it would put too much strain on the market for houses.

Re: Oh the joys of Cooking
I loved Baking and Brewing in EQ1, in fact those were the only tradeskills I maxxed out. Would be great to see them enter Vanguard.
Farming is a great idea, too. Lord of the Rings Online has farming, albeit only for farming pipeweed. But VG has the potention (with the whole owning plots of land thing) to allow a similar system of purchasing farmland and harvesting it after it matures.
