I mean sure they might allow me to pick up more than 10 pieces of sandstone from one quarry node, but if I need more I can just run to the next node. And it saves me the money I would have to spend on tools and such. Though for rare materials I could definately see this as being quite worthwhile. Otherwise, though..
The broker is working much better now. I don't know if everything is fixed, but they did some major improvement. You might have an easier time of it than when the game opened.

The tools aren't really expensive. I give away pristine copper ones to people that harvest in groups with me, because I more than make up the materials through the extra yield. Tin ones go for maybe 5-10s, depending on who sells them. Unless you already are at max yield (27 per node), I definitely recommend you try at least one of them. That, of course, goes particularly for the rares.

I shouted on the auction channel a few times that I wanted to buy crafted harvesting tools, and after maybe 10 minutes, probably yelled 4 or 5 times, someone /tell me, we struck a deal, and an hour or so later I had my items.

Took awhile because the crafter was on another order and then had to go find the raw materials.

It is doable with a bit of patience and persistence.

so what's in it for me a 175 skinner reaper hehe

got over 100 in skinning and reaping

i haven't looked into tools and some forum posts are confusing like the one that said to reap cotton you have to buy amateur tools (you don't really just need 100 in reaping and have read the amateur harvest book

You don't "need" to, it's just you won't yield as much with lower tier tools I believe. If you read the description of the tools it tells you that yield (or something) goes down at higher tier(s).

whats in it for you? how about a boost to your yield per harvest if you use a better tool? You can buy better tools on the vendor but a novice crafted tool is as good as an amateur vendor one, an amateur crafted one is as good as the apprentice vendor one etc.

So if you want a better yield buy a pristine novice copper tool if you are a novice, a pristine tin amateur one if you are a amateur, all available from your friendly blacksmith on the broker

I am selling several novice tools a day now, they get bought within an hour of putting them on the broker. I could sell alot more if I could find the time to sit there and craft them. I wish you could make several in a go to be honest like you can with components - would make sense for items that don't require secondary components to be able to craft several in one go. Oh for the equivalent of a SWG factory run

Re: Why are harvesters not buying crafted tools?

Its actually kinda simple...

Max yield in harvesting is 1unit & 7 chunks. If you are not getting that when you are harvesting, you need better tools and/or harvesting clothes.

I wasn't hitting 1 unit & 7 chunks, but I was getting 1 unit + after buying my crafted harvesting tools. I got a whole lot more then before in a much shorter time. Definitely need to spread the word on these.

Re: Why are harvesters not buying crafted tools?

wow i didn't realise thanks for the tip i'm usually getting between 13-16 per harvest so getting 20+ would be a great increase.

I will buy said tools as soon as possible also from an RP point of view I prefer to buy from the market.

I would personally take vendors out of the game making it market driven

Are people generally ignorant of the usefulness of these tools or what gives.

Any theories?
I'd say lack of understanding of the broker.

That and the broker not working properly, or at all, for quite a few people, until the recent fix. It's hard to say "There's no market for this!" when the market may not even know such tools exist. Many new players are still struggling with the basic concept of harvesting (and its independence from crafting, which appears to confuse many, many people), and have no idea that they can buy better player-made tools.

It may be a little early to be commenting on the lack of buyers in the more esoteric categories like this one (i.e. anything that isn't a bag, a sword, or a piece of armour :-D).
