Best use of Nickel

I think by the time you have the skill to hit max with a nickel tool you have moved on to next tier.

I'm now harvesting copper, tin, and iron. I can only use copper and both, though, and I have hit the limit on both. If the nickel tools do boost the max, this would be a really good time for me to make one.

I sincerely doubt that though. I believe it's a smaller max tbh.
Judging from the tool stats and the output I see.

I can't see it being a smaller max yield, even if it does have a smaller max per hit. Surely there is a reason for having this...

Sure, I started with all grade A items, I don't remember exactly what the Tin armor piece was, but probably Pauldrons. It only takes enhanced armor to upgrade, so I used Protectors. The cotton bolt was grade A, and then the nickel ore (asks for ore, not ingot or sheet). Once all these items were in my inventory, the recipe worked fine. Just like any other recipe, progress and quality.

I maxed it out to 100%, successfully completed the recipe and got an invalid item (the little red circle with a line through it). No description or name of the item when examining it. All it said was grade A, that was the only thing in the description if I recall correctly, and no picture or icon.

Unfortunately I deleted the item a couple of days ago, so I can't go back and look at it. I could do it again of course if more info is needed.

It's a smaller max yield than a Tin tool, because it's a tier 1 tool and tin is tier 2. It has a higher max yield than a copper tool.

Oh...I figured it was tier 2 since all other nodes where I harvest are tier 2 and 3.

That would explain it.
