Re: Lots of questions

Anyone know of a chart that shows what kind of dust gives each "brand" of item; i.e. drifter's, brigand's, mystic's, etc.?

Re: Lots of questions

So what is best leatherworking, or tailoring?

BTW this site is great I started as an outfitter last night. Found it really strange that the 15 bundles I'd harvested couldn't be used until level 4 crafting. Still I suppose I've just done it in the wrong order by harvesting before crafting.

Thanks to all who posted here it has really helped me understand. I didn't know about locking skills in your character sheet. That's a big plus

The simple, but obnoxious, answer is it depends what you want to make. Tailoring emphasizes cloth products like bags and light armor, leatherworking emphasizes leather products like horse tack and medium armor. Finding leather nodes to harvest is easy if you adventure as well, since many animal corpses can be skinned; plant fiber doesn't fight back although it may be a challenge to find the plants and to get to them, so tailoring might be better if you are a pure crafter or crafter/diplomat.

You didn't do things in the "wrong" order, just got ahead of yourself -- if there is a problem, it is in the game design that makes the component higher level than the product it is used in.

I would suggest doing work orders until you get most of your tier 1 recipes before making many real items. The lower level recipes then become easier to do and you have earned some coin and, perhaps, some nice crafting equipment in the process.

While this is totally sensible, and good advice to boot, on the other needle I need to say that making a bolt of jute and getting 40% of your level at level 3 is kinda fun.

SwordMage is right that recipes are not easy to make at the level they're given to you - just because you get a bag recipe at level 8 doesn't mean you can churn out As every time (or indeed much of the time). That being said, if you like to try out the recipes you've been given and don't mind making something that may not be top-notch, you should at least get a decent chunk of xp for first-time recipe use.

Jelonna - I don't have a chart, but I have made a few. Sentry = STR, Brigand = DEX, Mystic = WIS (EDIT -- eek... or is it INT?). I have a Drifter's ingot in the bank but damned if I can remember what stat it boosts. I'll look it up as soon as I remember.

Re: Lots of questions

i think that is part of the fun - figuring out what items have what stats and what things like the "exotic" dusts do to things you can make.

Re: Lots of questions

Found some dust / name info:
(Format is STAT / Tier 1 name / Tier 2 name

CON / Drifters / Wayfarers
DEX / Brigand / Brute
INT / Charlatan / Grifter
STR / Sentry / Protector
VIT / Votary / Fanatic
WIS / Mystic / Oracle

Now to find somewhere to add this to the Wiki if it hasn't been already
