Re: Blacksmithish harvester!

there isn't one NEEDED for blacksmith - secondary skill that is. pick the one you think might be the most fun. if you are enjoying looking for more stone piles to bash with your pick (or hammer if you pick quarrying) then choose that, or if you think you would like to get the skins from all the mobs you kill, choose that.....etc....

I have noticed that the starter tools are all free and are all equipable at the same time. If you place em all in the tool belt, the game will pick and choose the one needed. I have also noticed that even though you pick a primary and secondary skill, the game lets you harvest everything - as long as you have the right tool for the job.

this might change after release but something to remember nonetheless.

Re: Blacksmithish harvester!

The game does not let you harvest everything if you are solo. You can only harvest the 2 you selected. That does not preclude you from harvesting all types of resources though. As long as there is someone in your group who has the requisite skill to harvest something, and you have the proper tool with you, you are able to join in on the harvest. As long as your overall harvesting skill is high enough as well. For Tier 2 nodes you must have a base harvesting of 100, Tier 3 is 200 etc...

Re: Blacksmithish harvester!

Not only that, but group harvesting results in larger yeilds. This is why if you see someone running around the same route you are but harvesting another type of node then you should group. You can help their yeild and they yours, all the while increasing your general harvesting skill.

As a weaponsmith in beta I took quarrying as I found a few spots where the rock and ore deposits would switch back and forth, requiring me to knock the rock out before the ore would spawn.

Re: Blacksmithish harvester!

Personally because housing and ships are important to my guild I'll be doing either stonemason or lumberjacking as my secondary on my Blacksmith. Didn't get a chance to build either houses or ships but my understanding is that they take a ton of material.

FYI, metal and stone do not share spawn points.

Re: Blacksmithish harvester!

i choose quarrying because i figured that the mining nodes/quarrying nodes both being stone like things would spawn in the same general areas (caves and such of that nature) so it would be easier to raise them at the same time, not sure if this is actually true, but it seemed logical to me :P

PS: DING!!!

Oh they generally spawn in the same areas, they just don't share actual spawn points. You don't need to hit stone to have ore pop is all.

I support the tactic of choosing Mining and Quarrying as complimentary skills. Your general harvesting skill will go up faster, with less searching for nodes for your secondary skill.
