Re: Pros and Cons of Player Housing
I am hoping that , *they*, have also witnessed UO's and *shudder* SWG's mess with housing. Both as having ghost trailer parks but also being used to block off sections of the game (IE Krayt Valley for a time).
Certainly I am not going to complain before there is something to complain about....plenty of that to come from others no matter what happens but I have faith in these devs to learn from the past. They continue to be quoted or...mis-quoted as referring to this as a"3rd Generation" MMO. I would like to think that the mistakes of the past are not hereditary. There was / is a game called "Shadowbane" (now a free MMO usurped by very angry young men of all languages who PvP as like so many vampires in need of their daily blood and will not for a moment ask your name or show custom niceties) which is EXTREMELY VAST in terms of space as this game purports to be. This being very cool we set walls and built castles around our blacksmith shoppes etc which gave an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and joy to behold your own guards marching as you stood upon a parapet looking down onto parts of your burgeoning citadel. All I am saying is it CAN be done correctly. it will simply require not repeating the mistakes of the past. I for one am clinging to faith on this one. SOMEONE will eventually set player building up properly and this game surely sounds promising.

Re: Pros and Cons of Player Housing
Some of this is addressed in posts here with good options.
I only desire to see two things missing in Vanguard about player housing I saw in the past. 1. That the communities don't become so large they induce ghosting to enter their zones ( some SWG player towns located too close to game towns) Piroteess seems to address that one. 2. ghost towns run by city managers ( SWG again ) They always made living in most player cities moot. Player housing will be immensly popular and is a nice addition to a game. It does add to the sense of immersion. Guild Complexes in some form would add a greater sense of community for the guild members if they could also co-locate thier houses in them. But just in general even with my starter "ghetto " apt in EQ2 it felt better to log for the night in that then on the street somewhere!
