Re: Learning recipes

There will be secret recipes witch will be very hard to find and get. Theses recipes will need a lot of skills, help and all to be discovered and for me that will be a major difference between EQ and VG. In EQ you had money, the good level to farm and a good clicky mouse and you can be GM ( except in tinkering cause to be a master gnome tinkerer you needed to be strong, beautifull, intelligent, charismatic and more and more ... oups i was GM tinkerer gnome ... hehehe ) In vanguard you can be the highest in level in smith dont mean you are the best smither ever .... thats why its really interesting

Unfortunately the only folks who know how indpeth the possibilities go are the devs and they're still in a media blackout. I would expect there to be quite a bit of depth for this feature though. Hopefully we'll see soon.

Re: Learning recipes

Hi, it's good to see people excited about the crafting portion of a game. I can see that we will have a good variety of crafts to choose from and I hope that I can make enough charaters on an account/server to get them all in. Looking forward to trading with you all and a special thanks to Pirotess for this medium in which we all get some very valuable insight.

Re: Learning recipes

what I am imagining and what the developers are imagining is that the game can only be limited to its own programming and variables created by the formulas implanted. Meaning it is only a game, and would be wonderful to imagine the possibilities of what one person or group of persons could create.
say i am a stone crafter and wanted to build a large tower or keep for my fellow adventurers or guild mates, I can only see this in my mind and the actual geometric system of the games programming can entitle the creation of such a place, and can only imagine that the same goes for any other crafting. I dont know for sure though I have only played games that offer; recipe+ ingriedients= finished product.
It would be great to see, for example. Weaponsmith spends hours and hours bending and forging and hammering away at metals and add some unique materials and form the greatest sword ever created, and then have it enchanted that adds unique modifications. o.O

Re: Learning recipes

There's just so much potential... I spent a lot of time crafting (haha) in WoW, but a short while after hitting the cap in certain tradeskills - and getting most of the good recipes - it just wasn't fun anymore.

With V:SoH, at least from what I have read so far, this won't be the case. It will certainly add some much-needed longevity to the crafting-portion of the game.

But crafting IS levelling!

Oh, you mean adventuring. Meh, who needs that!

Re: Learning recipes

Am I right in thinking all possible recipes will be created by the dev team for us to find?

It would be great if in addition they could create a "recipe engine" capable of creating unique recipes by combining a number of random factors rather like a slot machine.

It would be a shrine feature, the crafter gives a donation to the shrine and the shrine give the crafter a recipe.

a series of random numbers are generated each one relates to item attributes:

normal damage
elemental enchantment
power
weight
and so on.

just like a slot machine most recipes produced would be unexciting.

However on rare occasions you will hit a jackpot.

My suggestion would be that such recipes created would be one use only then they disappear.

Re: Learning recipes

Certainly seems like a possible scenario. I've read that we will be able to discover rare recipes but the process for doing so is alot more random and the recipes you discover are preset.

Re: Learning recipes

The simple prospect of discovery and experimentation has me excited beyond reason.

I do agree however, that the introduction of new 'discovered' recipes should be a rare occurance. As the rate of introduction increases, you effectively dilute the value of each individual discovery. I'm guessing the system is there as a reward for hard work, not as the basis for advancement.
