I think that would be interesting to see. Like in Cooking if something goes wrong it could make you feel sick, if you made a great ale it could give you a wonderful charismic glow or if it flopped badly would give a bad effect on you for a certain time? Of course with experience comes better product, but I have never seen something like this implimented in a game. Everything (Once you "learn" the recipe) will become better and better quality as you work it, but in all honesty I think that the prospect of making an awesome or unique sword/food/drink/etc and being the ONLY one to make such a thing on your server will bring it's own rewards. (And bring a demand for people's wares. This might make people enthusiastic about tradeskilling and not just xp grinding or raiding.)

Also, with experimentation, could a person in effect add something and make a "New" product. Experimenting with food (or anything really) always brings good or bad things to light. (extra garlic in one recipe makes it great, accidently putting salt instead of sugar would make it very bad!) And What about certain racial barriers? Some herbs on one race might be fatal or intoxicating. Different Tanins could bring different effects on armor/weapons? Which could bring about class/racial only items?)

Not quite sure how the tradeskills will work, but thought I would ask.

Yes failure is possible and actually probable as you are skilling on your higher level recipes. Unfortunately though there are currently no plans to have a cooking skill but the other skills which have been announced can have various versions of the base item created via experimentation. So while one might have 10 to str and 10 to agi another could have 12 to str and 5 to agi. In that way yes I guess you could consider that a bad effect if you were more concerned with agi than str.

There has been discussion about taking an existing item and adding onto it on the official vanguard forums. It wasnt a hugely detailed comment but Silius did mention it was possible.

Re: Learning recipes

This idea of learning recipes is great. I have done a little reading about crafting and until now, I wasn't really interested. This seems like a really cool idea and will make the grind of crafting somewhat go away.

I have always hated crafting in other games... time waste and I never made any coin. Someone always had more time and more desire to sit there and craft. With this system, it will be exciting crafting knowing that you could create a new and possibly rare recipe/item.

Re: Learning recipes

As long as I don't need 4 clicks per combine, roughly 400 combines to level up to 100 <insert craft here> I will be fine. I have never been a crafter really, I like exploration and raiding.

Re: Learning recipes

Hiya !

This system of learning recipes looks like very interesting. It's used in EQ2 and Lineage2. So Vigil has look on it and bring this system to a new way. The fact that a player with certain stats at a moment who will try to experiment will be perhaps .. i would say rarely unlock certain recipy look like really cool. I just wonder that theses recipy will be unique or so far enough rare to have a real value on the crafting market/charisma of the the crafter. On EQ crafting was most part solo (unless some rare things to get in vex thal or in Cazic temple witch needed a raid or at minimum 3 groups to be safe). I love the idea to bring a crafter group in a high dungeon to craft some rare robes or rare swords.

I think there will be ooc in zone saying: "Crafter group heading to the Forge of Shiva looking for adventurer level 40 to 50 to secure the zone. WE PAY WELL"

Perhaps some recipy will be on loot only. So we will have to participate in raids to get them. I love the fact to have some rare items on raid boss ( perhaps theses rares can be key to unlock some recipy too ).
Lets see but this craft looking make me impatient to enter in game lol

Re: Learning recipes

I just put 2 and 2 together. When you say Vigil, I think you mean Sigil.

Re: Learning recipes

I would like the idea of someone teaching while they craft. Or just teaching skills or reciepies. Or scribe the reciepies you you learned while you experiment.

Re: Learning recipes

I have never enjoyed crafting I did it after max level in eq just for something other then fighting and it made me all like proud when I made my first uber chest piece way bettert then looting it imo. However the pocess was BORING. I say all that just to say this with v:soh I can see myself really getting into the crafting and maybe even spliting time evenily that is saying alot for me as I perfer advertureing anyday. Form the sound of the crafting sphere however it seems like an adverture in of itself.

Re: Learning recipes

There is loads of variables that will impact on your chances of discovering a new recipe.

1. Class (obvious)
2. Subclass
3. specialisations
4. Knowledge of recipes which make components.
3. Skills learnt from craft masters.
4. Level
5. Flags set by various crafting quests.
6. resources available for testing
7. Quality/purity of those resources.
8. Quality of crafting equipment.
9. Tool buffs
10. Craft armor Buffs
11. Location of crafting site.
12. Weather (we are told that it impacts magic so why not crafting) creating Frankenstein needed a storm.

Re: Learning recipes

Does anyone have any idea how indepth the possibilities go as far as discovering new things? I mean, in terms of originality; one that could call a person a 'master' of his/her trade.
