Beta-Slot Entry #2

With the full moon pouring down its silvery glow upon the land, there was magic happening inside the village of Halgarad. A wolf’s cry woke Geirr, the villages’ oldest and most wise shaman.

With only a fine strand of that silver pouring into the sacred wooden temple of the Shaman, he arose to let it spill on to his face. As the wolf howled a second time, Geirr’s face went pale as the moon light. He had never heard this cry before but knew that it was the Great Wolf Sprit. As a vision formed in his mind of the undead storming across the plains heading to the human city of New Targonor, he noted that only the humans manned the walls. In a fierce battle the undead swarmed the city and killed every living creature down to the small flies that where drawn to the dead. As he started to weep, the vision the Great Wolf Sprite calmed the old soothsayer. Once again he saw the undead storm across the plains for the city of Humans. As he looked upon the walls this time he saw not just the humans, but every race fighting together. Elves fought along side there ancient enemies the Vulmane. The dwarves where out of there mountain and made up the front lines of defense along side ranks of lesser giants. Halflings caste spells and flung rocks at the undead. In the middle of the city there was a large presence of magic. As the sprite drifted him closer to that center, he could start to make out the sounds of chanting. The center was abuzz with healers of all types and faiths. In the middle and elevated slightly where three shaman joined as one. The one blessed with the Great Wolf Sprit was the old shaman’s grandson, Haggar.

With a startle the old shaman woke to the sounds of bird’s chirpings. Not sure of what time of day it was, he quickly opened the door to the temple. It was early morning still and the people where starting about there day. Geirr quickly went to his brother’s house. Geirr told his brother, Guthfrithr, of the vision as the Great Wolf Sprite showed him. “I have always trusted you my brother. If the Great Wolf Sprit has called us to help the humans then we shall. I’ll call a counsel of the other clans, The Bear, and the Phoenix.” said Guthfrithr. Geirr then strode off to find his grandson.

Walking into his son’s house Geirr found his grandson practicing his shaman chants. Reluctant to pull him out of the chant, as that can be deadly, he watched the young man. As the chant came to an end the power that swelled inside the young man could be seen by the eyes of Geirr. A silvery glow like the fine moon light of last night shown along Haggar’s skin. A faint trickle of blood was soaked though his tunic on his right side. When it was complete Haggar sat down and looked up at his Grandfather. “The Great Wolf Sprite came to me last night.” said Haggar. Haggar raised his tunic to show Geirr a bloody paw print on his side. The paw print was a sign not seen in over 1000 years. It was the touch of the Great Wolf himself. Geirr said, “He also showed me what was to come to past. Two roads that start out the same but lead to different places. We must get you ready for the upcoming battle’s you will face as leader of the Great Wolf Tribe.”

This day was the start of something new for the Tribes of the lesser giants. That night two other young shaman where reached out and touched by there sprit, one from the Great Bear, and the other from the Phoenix. All the tribes knew there life was about to change, but not for the worse. Today they would no longer stand by and let others direct the fate of there world. Today they take charge of there destiny and let the world know there power. Today they stand tall.

The End.

Re: Oct. Contest Entry #2

I like this. Short but to the point. Giving a reason why the once fractured societies of Telon would band together to fight the undead hordes. Fighting seperatly hasn't worked in the past and by the dictates of there gods and spirit guides the racial differances must be put aside.
