How to Crash a Chunk - Step by Step

1.) log in Niaya's account
2.) Log in Taggy's account
3.) Team them
---Any characters - we tried with Eyeof and Groknor and Niaya and McTaggard

Guaranteed the chunk will drop in 30 minutes or so....

Not sure why, but every time we teamed on Sunday, we were the only one's in the chunk (did a /who only we came up) we crashed the chunk every time

Niaya is a bard, McTaggard a paladin, Eyeof a Disciple and Groknor and monk. We've teamed before with no issues. And we can log solo without a problem. The instant we team and start to do anything, the chunk will drop within 30-60 minutes.

Thinking it was on our machines we did a /flush all (advised that /flush is not as effective as it used to be) we still crash. The only difference is how long it takes to crash.

I did add a map mod to my UI, but I don't see why that would affect anyone but me.

Is it just a coincidence and things were really unstable this weekend?

Re: How to Crash a Chunk - Step by Step

My experience this weekend was that in groups of 3 or less the chunks were fairly stable. Four or more and we would definitely crash to character select within 10-20 minutes, and then have to wait for the chunk to restart (couple minutes) before we could re-enter.

Blighted Lands was one that yo-yo-ed a bunch on Saturday afternoon (if you have server logs). We had a group of five going there for several hours.

Re: How to Crash a Chunk - Step by Step

I think I have noticed that it happens more when I attack something with no attack path to me. If I attack them and they can't find their way to me, it seems to kill the chunk. I don't know that is the truth but it seems to be a pattern.

Re: How to Crash a Chunk - Step by Step

tried taggys suggestion - we cleared the island for about 40 minutes making sure everything had a path to us (or making a path to it.

I attacked one thing that had no path to us - and so did taggy - and the chunk dropped

Re: How to Crash a Chunk - Step by Step

Nice bug work there, was it 100% repeatable?

It seems to be a different effect than what I have noticed though, as we always had mobs in our face (no path troubles) and still the chunk would crash. Also, when I was soloing (to work skinning) mobs that could not find a path to me would just switch to uber-regen and effectively become unkillable, with no effect on the chunk. Of course, I was solo, it could be a combination of group size and pathing issues.

By the way, mobs seem to get stuck on hills a great deal now. Even if they have a straight shot to me, and are not far away, they easily get confused if there is a slope between us (uphill, downhill does not seem to matter). Running a few steps toward them will "show them the way" allowing them to beeline to you.

Re: How to Crash a Chunk - Step by Step

yup - 100% repro.

If the creature had no path to me (happened most often on hills - as you noticed as well) we were fine the the stupid thing would just heal. When I soloed on Lillibell this weekend, The mobs would just heal insanely (as you noticed) I was going to bug it but was advised it was "as intended" to prevent perching with pathing issues were discovered. I used the same workaround you did and was fine for hours.

Didn't notice any problems until Taggy and I teamed. If Taggy pulled (he is the tank of our duo) and the creature had no path we would get a few attacks in and *bam* dead chunk

Another interesting thing to note (not sure if it is related or not) when we logged back in *I* would have the three minute invulnerability buff.... Taggy would not. He would be attacked right away

We were in shoreline ruins with Niaya and McTaggard (the URT weapon mission... which is borked for us and I'm just to frustrated to go back and redo the damn thing) and in the Orc starting area with Groknor and Eyeof. I can't remember the quest name but it was the one where you went in the caves to kill kliknacs and the wyvern looking things so you could join the clan
