No more brown?
I know a few of us were concerned about the overall "brown-ness" of the screens that have been posted. . .and then today I was following the developer tracker and found this little gem.
Post by Brad NoMoreBrown Screen http://www.bradmcquaid.com/NoMoreBrown.jpg Just thought I would repost it in case someone hasn't seen it yet.

Re: No more brown?
loved the content but layout odd. looked like a test area set up to show what folage was available. planting needs to be placed logically not scattered randomly about. But if the purpose was simply to give us an idea of new lighting effects its fine... though still no shadows???

Re: No more brown?
I didn't really like the look of the zone. It just doesn't make me say "Oooooh, I want to go there!" for some reason. I think I would have preferred an evergreen forest - or a spooky sort of leafless wood - or even anything else.
I would have probably liked it better if the background color hadn't been a bluish green, aka turquoise... or if the low-growing plants hadn't looked quite so "tropical" (for lack of a better word). I'll probably even like it better once all of the shadows and other effects go in... As it is, I can think of a dozen other shots that get me more excited to actually "be" there. |

Re: No more brown?
I was looking at shots of Rivendell from LoTR and other areas they filmed, and the difference in hues and colors. It's amazing to me, actually...and I guess I had thought about it, but then I started pulling out screenshots of VSoH and comparing them. Too many to list here with comparisons, but really interesting!

Re: No more brown?
The plants look tropical and the placement haphazard because it's supposed to be a Qalian jungle.
![]() (Though I gotta say that the green used for the ferns and other small plants is off.)

Re: No more brown?
I'm color blind, so all these small things just don't matter to me. Stuff like it's too green or it's to brown, I'm just glad it's not to dark. I think the screen shots are very nice, and I can't wait to go get jumped by some animal hiding in the bushes.

Re: No more brown?
Overall I'm pleased with the shots. I hope there will be thicker jungles than that though. But then again, there might be a different feel to the whole scene when you're actually right in the middle of it, with the trees towering over you.
I'm semi color-blind I think... I have a hard time distinguishing between purple and blue at times .

Re: No more brown?
There does seem to be a problem in the art department when it comes to trees. They seem to have no idea of the size of natural mature forests as opposed to trees in parks of plantations. The canopy in jungles is over 150 foot above the ground the trucks are massive the same goes for palms in desert settings.. WOW went to the other extreme.. reality is somewhere in between.
