Ok, so.....
Let's revisit this policy set forth by Sigil, ok? This is what was posted August of 2006 regarding that:

Re: InGame Naming Policy
You mean I won't be surrounded by players with names like "PiMpMaStEr23"?
Thank you Sigil.

Re: InGame Naming Policy
Thats just it..
In City of Heroes they were very PRO-ACTIVE with the naming policy, its like GM's were placed about all the newbie area's to catch in-valid names before they level.
What is it like in Vanguard? are GM's going to be going around looking for names activly before they are too high level, or will they depend on the action of its players?
It will cause major problems if someone gets to level 30 and then receives a complaint.

In EQ, they would still change names that were deemed unacceptable, although I believe players did have SOME say, especially regarding the first name. I remember one player i reported in the PoK named Chuggin Diareeah. I swore I would never drink another chocolate milkshake!

Crimson Fellowship will also be on the lookout, as well as (and I kid you not) probably at least 100 past Guides from the GOOD days of EQ when CS actually meant something and worked.

Re: InGame Naming Policy
I keep seeing a lot of names I'd consider would be getting changed when seen / reported, but should I be more proactive about this and reporting folks? I'd like to see it kept very strict, but I don't want to feel like a narc or anything.

Re: InGame Naming Policy
I hope the GMs ignore all of you. You guys are so closed minded, it's absurd. When I say, "you guys," I don't mean every single one of you- just the ones that are saying they want immersion but want to talk about real life stuff too, so everyone should have to have a name that you'd find in a fantasy world like this.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
If you want immersion, go to an RP server. If you want pseudo-immersion, you have two options:
1) Get over yourself and pretend you've met people named Scotchtape on a regular server.
2) Get over yourself and learn to deal with people talking in character the majority of the time on the RP server.
I pay my $15 a month just like you do. Names like Cumsonyou is definitely inappropriate, but not because it's immersion breaking: because the game isn't rated Mature and names shouldn't push it to that. Names like Scotchtape (we need a better example since this is Copyrighted...) should be allowed on regular (non-RP) servers because that person is paying their $15 a month and obviously doesn't want to roleplay or be immersed into the game world. If they did, they'd be...guess where? An RP server! Huzzah.
edit: stupid grammar

Re: InGame Naming Policy
Well, seeing as the game creators made the policy, not to be snarky but, too bad really. If people don't like their policies they don't have to pay their $15. I don't RP. Just not my thing, but all the corny, stupid, lame names running around is mildy annoying. Its not that I'm 'hung up on myself' I just have different ideas of immersion. So, if they adhere to their own policies, Scotchtape can either deal with it or find another game to play.

Re: InGame Naming Policy
It works both ways. FEDS' reasoning is what the GMs are suppose to be paying attention to, besides the policy!
And, you can't use trademark/registered names, so Scotchtape is out.
I'll be paying my $15 because of the rules of the Creators. And, yes, FEDS...they rely on proactive players for extra eyes! If they didn't, there wouldn't be a /petition function!

I'm not really sure, unless they were putting in random fictional creature names and "zilla", being part of one, is being picked up. You can /petition and ask a GM for the reasoning. I'm really not sure what they would tell you. Sure...it "sounds" like you're trying to make the Gieco gecko into some monster, but...

If Gieco owns the trademark of "Gecko" then we need to revisit our trademark laws. Geckos have nothing to do with Geico, it's all Geico simply choosing it as their mascot. I don't think it has anything to do with it. My name Rutabaga is greenlighted thank goodness, I'm happy I don't have to change my name from over 15 years of online gaming. Though for some reason it didn't give me the correct last name, which I'm still trying to figure out (Usually I use Rutabaga Nyquist, I had typed in a different name for another character (Chimpanga Leafadder) during a server outage when I tried to make one, and come back and made rutabaga nyquist and he became rutabaga leafadder...wonder if they'll fix it for me :-\

6. Proper names from Vanguard including the first or last name of any significant NPC, area, race, class, or a representative of Sigil Games Online, Inc., Sony Online Entertainment, their subsidiaries or affiliates.

I haven't really read too much about the vanguard employees or know who is a representative of Sigil, Sony or any of their affiliates so refraining from choosing their names is impossible. Also I would be quite difficult apon creating my first character to know who all the significant NPCs, areas, or classes in the game are. That point should read.
