Really my biggest hope is I dont see people running around with little phrases in their names like "Inurface" or something like that. If they prevent those from getting through then I'll be just fine playing next to a Robert Redford or Legolas since those dont really bother me to anywhere near the degree leet speak names do.

I recently created a bloodmage called Heema Gobine just because all the names I wanted were taken and I simply ran out of patience. Having said that it was a test character in Beta. In the real game I will take great care in my game selection since I hope I will be living with that character for many years.

What do I think of the naming policy? well I agree that offensive names should not be allowed. I personally do not get upset seeing a gilmlee, gimmly or Gimlie running around. made up names like Ima Pudding dont bother me that much either. If I am allowed to call my child Elvis Presley without being sued for copyright I dont see why I cannot do so in a game (not that I would either in game or RL). A role play server however is different and there I would be far stricter.

Over all I think folks can get a bit carried away with game purity I dont think it the place for stuffy rules and regulations we get enough of that in the real world.

My opinion on naming policy is that there is the need for some rules. Little phrases as a name are not too creative (well...some are) but if someone is playing the game, a fantasy game, is because they are interested in the new world, the surroundings and the npc's. As in real world there are customs, traditions which are different for every race. Having this in mind I think that naming your character should follow the customs of the race you're playing. If you are playing a human character why not call it Bob (not my favorite name)? For me I would pick a name that would suit the kind of human race you are playing. That being said I think I will have a bit of a hard time naming my Raki...

Well, the only two things I don't like are the "non-alpha characters" and the "uninteligable name" rules.

The non-alpha I don't like because it prevents me from having a character named like "Gorion L'donus" or "Simion T'reft" (Made those off the top of my head, but you see what they have in common).

I don't like the Uninteligable name rule only because it will prevent me from having like a half giant or other non-human race with a crazy name, like Sgrasg (Pronounced Skgaazg).

Also, I wonder if I could have a Half Giant or some other burly character with the last name "Bonecrusher"...

Well, technically and from a purely historic standpoint, you should be able to! It's like the indians naming their children after the first thing the father sees when he leaves the tent...Running Deer or Red Flame...it's tradition and it's wonderful, actually! It means something to them!!

To me, as long as it's in character and not "out there" or vulgar, surnames should be able to do historical/racial oriented surnames. And, if you look at some russian or other complicated language words, you'd never believe they're words, either! There's a fine line!!

I'm definately for a STRONG rule that is inforced!

OH...and about things like Major and such....no. I'm totally against that! IF there should happen to be events where the GMs award certain titles as rewards for defeating armies or such, I would welcome that. Even then, titles should never be names!! Given as an actual title before the name, yeah! But only as a special deal! (ugh....morning...did that make sense??)

I totally agree with SGO's naming policy and hope they can enforce it. Yes, I pay my monthly fee and I see the necessity for these rules because when there are lots of people playing a game, there needs to be restrictions. In any case, it is their game, they have GMs who have to deal with the players so it's in their best interests to have a policy.

If you don't like it, instead of blaming SGO, blame human nature.
