I always try to look at things at a slightly different angle than most. This week, it is no different as I witnessed some of the most brutal debate in a long time. The two major themes were PvP vs PvE and Casual vs Hardcore. Am I the only one who is astonished over the ferocity of the debates? ...

Re: Why All the Hate?
I know when I played EQ2 some of these raids took a long time , from the point of getting everyone together to the finish of the raid. I consider my self semi hard core I play a few hrs a day to all day. everytime I raided or we had the long quest it was more than 4 or 5 hrs. It take the causal player out of the game at times. Even in WOW some of these raids are long half the time the person leading the raid was looking for what he/she wants.
On PVP its oky for the person who wants its , Tried it and never could get used to it like to be more of a rp player and PVE. Roleplaying was alot better I believe when there was texed base games (where has time gone). But to each thier own. Best is to find the people who have the same interest that you have and Enjoy the game. |

Re: Why All the Hate?
I think the term "Raid" is going to have to be "re-defined". I don't think you can just muster up 54 doods (I AM NOT IN BETA AND JUST PICKED 54 AS A GUESS) and plast off to go slay dragon 0675.
I see raids taking days and time. Crafters making things to allow you to trigger something to allow you into the dungeon. New article is on the way. I have my brother-in-law editing it, but he also edits magazines and he freaked when I handed him my dream raid which was 72 pages in Word, 12 point, New Times Roman. Its gonna be awesome. And yes I do have a little fanboi in me this AM. CEJ - FTW edit: Coincedently, this is why group loot cannot compair to raid Loot. Also, I think that XP in a raid needs to be low, if not miniscule. I never did like raid XP. However, I used to hate the DPS group in EQ of 4 Wizzies, a Mage, and a driud. They cleaned house. |

Re: Why All the Hate?
Just to throw my bit in.
I enjoyed raiding in EQ2 not because of the 'Phat' loot or such but because facing a challenge with a large group of like minded people is fun. Raiding with a farmiliar group of people let you learn about each other. Some get upset when they fail, others joke and some just hold it in till they burst at the seams. And when you suceed with that really tough mob there is a great feeling of finally achieving something togeather. This same feeling can be achieved in groups. Im sure if you have played MPORGs before you can remember the feeling that comes with being in a realy productive group and getting deeper ino that heroic dungeon that you ever have before. Online games are about meeting other like minded people and overcoming chalenges togeather. While its nice to think that you are some kind of god on the server, it much nicer to be in a team that works like a well oiled machine. Someone with a 'Phat' kit is not nesecarilarly the best player. Look forward to meeting you all online. ![]() |

Re: Why All the Hate?
Oh how I miss the good old days of UO, before the tram/fel split (I had to leave, that was the worst thing they ever did) The fear and heart racing you experienced trying to make the trip from britannia to skara brae or yew through the crossroads...oh those were the days. That was my first taste of pvp and I loved it, in fact I've yet to find an MMO with that feeling of lawlessness outside of the city's corral. I don't particularly like how VSoH is implementing pvp, it's just sort of odd I guess, I mean team or FFA? Is it FFA in cities? is there any faction hit to murder? I liked the old UO addage, a murderer's name is red as the blood he spilled. You kill outside the law, you get murder counts. Pseudo-justice system. Perhaps diplomacy could be used to represent murderers to get their count (KOS faction to PCs) lowered. Until there is some sense to the pvp servers I'll pass. It does look as if it'll be too much chaos for me.
