The original idea with these series of Vanguard-inspired pieces would be to take a piece of lore from each major continent in the world of Telon and write a piece based on its story and characters. This worked for the very first piece, A King's Lament, but as things progressed and inspiration took its hold, there weren't other lore pieces from the other continents that would lend themselves to tone poems in the same way AKL did.
The first piece handled the continent of Thestra. The second set of pieces took elements (literally) from Qalia. Then I moved beyond the continents to another aspect of the game's environment: dungeons, with Corrigan's Wail.
Now, we travel to Kojan, with a bit of hypothetical lore in aural form.
History of the Amber Plateau
Many things can happen to a single physical location in a wartorn world. In something so rudimentary as a field of golden hue, there could exist a small farming village. Life is simple and fulfilling for its citizens. Days pass without conflict or turmoil. But one youth is stricken with wanderlust. The youth wanders, and with such a simple act, the people too begin to follow. Those not willing to take up the nomadic life stay behind, tending the bountiful crops and hoping for the day that their village might return. But as peace so predictibly invites, it is broken with the appearance of lines of dark figures on either horizon. Now overwhelmed as a battlefield, the fields burn and char. Bodies slick with mud attract stray strands of grass. Over time, the battle is won by one side or the other. For a time, there is calm. Eventually, new people discover the bountiful land. Nomads return and settle once again. Together, they build communal bonds for the future.
Enjoy~
