So, ya like to flame, eh?

So, ya like to flame, eh?

I'm sure everyone knows about the sweet little flame that has turned into a mountain fire! It started off calmly enough around here, but by the time it got to page nine, it was a full-blown war!

That's not a thread, in my estimation, to be proud of. Flames of Heaven should have had the courtesy to stop it ....how many pages is it now? Thirty-three, as of a few minutes ago. I read some of it and was appauled, actually! I'm all for voicing opinions, but when it comes to breaking NDAs and open flames like that, the site's reputation is in jepordy for allowing it to continue!

Gaming is being invaded by a bunch of egotists who want things THEIR way and make sure everyone knows about it. Their opinions are the right ones, regardless of who it is talking. Just more proof that a game can't be what everyone wants! And April Jones said in her interview from GDC, that VSoH won't do that. It will be mostly about grouping...not soloing. That doesn't mean there isn't some stuff you can do solo, as they have mentioned, but with all the stuff they're packing in that takes so many skills, it just CAN'T be a soloer's game!

Anyone who thinks they know more than people who work their whole lives and are greatly respected needs to have their front lobe tweeked...not their ranger! They may know a lot, but they probably don't know everything that goes into game making and producing, much less lauching and making sure it keeps running for years with new content occasionally so the players have something to look forward to. Much less maintaining an environment that people want to continue playing in!

Some there talk about, what seems like, a silent group, that actually is the majority! These people will not be found breaking the NDA and will continue testing the limits and helping to make VSoH a better game, as Sigil has asked them to do! How dare someone say the game isn't worth the time or even isn't "ready" to play?? DUH! It won't be "ready" until launch, and if you know anything about creative people, it won't be "done" til ...well, ever! (Remind you of anything??) Shoot...beta is for TESTING, and it's work! Those folks are doing a job, not "playing" the game just for fun!

How dare some of these folks border on defamation of character (and some step right into it!) with some of the attacks they've launched? Why should Brad McQuaid have to respond in defense of himself and the game the way he did? And, I might add, quite handily, too! He's a class act, even when he and his work are assulted by people who haven't got the class (or maybe the guts?) to actually help finish the game to launch ability?

Someone asked the main descending voice there about his contacts. Well, the first thing I thought of was the article I wrote about people possibly being contracted by other companies to attack and demean a game that has the potential to be as big, or bigger, than WoW. People who don't want to wait or help are cowards and more than a little self-centered! Instant gratification is rampant these days, and we see that more and more in the gaming community. One reason I love reading about the plans that VSoH has for content and needing to have ...*gasp*... skill in order to get places!

What's old is new again, as the saying goes. EQ was so ahead of it's time, in many ways. Of course, it's caught up with itself but here comes a predecessor that has that possible potential, and what happens???

Well, for what it's worth, there are a lot of us willing to give Sigil all the time it wants to be ready and happy with the product they are working on for us, as well as themselves! I wish them all the luck in the world, and for those who decided to hop on the flame train....don't think we'll be seeing you in game, and I've had my share of griefers, anyway, so....GOOD!

Wonder how many game companies share info between themselves about beta testers who break NDAs and such? What a shame that would be, eh?

Re: So, ya like to flame, eh?

Hehe Fair head of steam you have got there Aredhel!!

I spent an hour or two following FOH threads and was pretty depressed at the attitude of some posters but then I stopped and thought. What does it matter? 90% of games players never go near Forums ( I have visited WoWs site once). 90% of the hot (blue) air is pure showing off or because they know Brad is following the thread. I waded through a storm of abuse from a guy who had his information from a mate who was allegedly in early Beta.

As for the rest. There are 25,000 new members who registered simply to get into a free beta who are now getting increasingly impatient. Finally there are some beta testers wanting their moment of glory by rubbing our noses in it.

I have followed Vanguard longer than I have played any game. I have logged on 3 -5 times a day for years. Posted about 2500 times. Nothing .. I repeat Nothing will stop me purchasing Vanguard if it is released. I dont think I am alone.

Re: So, ya like to flame, eh?

Yeah your anti-flame post seems to have singed a few edges of its own. this game isnt going to appeal to a tenth of the people that play wow nor should it. An attempt at pleasing 6million people with anything is a sure recipe for mediocrity. So you are guaranteed to see a massive amount of vocal negative people.

No offense but just because someone does a job, does not make them the supreme authority in that field. They are still people they are still faulable just like you just like me.

It's still beta!? God where have i heard this before oh thats right for over a year in WoW and up to a week before release "ITS STILL BETA!" sorry but there is the possibility that the game totaly blows and if that IS the case(which im not saying it is) maybe someone breeching the NDA is what it would take to get Sigil in gear. It is after all the player bases responsibility to insure that a craptacular game doesnt get released. I still have high hopes for vanguard and will not make any decisions one way or the other about it till the reviewer i trust most gets his hands on it, oh thats me.

Sigil is not above folly, you place them on a pedestal too high and they are sure to fall.

I must admit that I was - and still am - shocked from reading just a few pages in that thread... Horrible. The only glimpses of light in there are the posts by Oloh and Brad - and some decent "regular" posters. Apart from that... A waste of server - or should I say, database - space.

Re: So, ya like to flame, eh?

Persius...I've said, in times past, that expecting too much is dangerous! There will be a lot of people disappointed, no matter what. It's the nature of the beast! And setting Brad up on a pedestal isn't too hard! He's earned at least a small one from many of the noted and published authors on the subject of gaming and developing, yet if you talk to him irl, his enthusiasm and joy, as well as his humble attitude, earns him another notch!

And yes...I stamped out quite a few of my own fires that were coming up as I wrote the first draft of this, so if you see singe marks and smell a little smoke....sorry!

I quit reading the thread. I will agree it's a waste of space. I don't think anyone should be breaking the NDA, but perhaps some unknown folks could be asked to give their opinions, both good and bad, and publish it under the Sigil banner. I don't agree with singling out one known player/friend for that job. It creates stress on both parties, can cause some hard feelings and can be looked at as a little more than biased, so it's not fair to anyone. But a group effort would be very interesting. It would be nice to hear "reviews" from people in beta who have opinions but are sticking to the contract!

Who knows? Maybe that will happen, too. We'll see.

Re: So, ya like to flame, eh?

Flame wars happen on any forums. Why spend time arguing instead of playing. They can spend their time on pointless flame wars, I'll be playing games.

Anyway... flame war is boring.

Re: So, ya like to flame, eh?

There's also a handful of Vanguard fans there, but they tend to get outspoken by the flamers. Met one at Fanguard, pretty nice guy in general. Won the first graphics card prize at the "get to know you" game.

And then of course you have the FoH members that're, well, working at Sigil
