I used to like the idea of a big heavy two-handed sword but now I'd rather have a sharp, fast one handed Katana. They really are meant to be two handed but can easily be used with a shield. I used to run around with one in AC but now after Kill Bill I REALLY want one.

Naginata...
Is that the swordstaff? I've only really played AC1, AC2 and WoW extensively as far as mmo's go, but AC1 had the best itemization out of anything I've ever experienced, and from what I've read up on EQ, AC's kicked EQ's itemization squarely in the patootie!!! My favorite sword from AC1 was the tachi. ![]() -Eclipse

Indeed, naginata are a staff with a bladed end - not always bo, i have a 4 foot (jo) with 2 foot long blade in the style of the edo period (they tended to be shorter and generally only wielded by women at that time - they were often used as the last line of defence of a home, the women with their naginata).
http://www.naginata.org/naginata.html ![]() I would love to learn to wield one, but there are only 3 schools in the entire UK, and no governing body. Oddly it's rather big in France, but the French authorities frown on the British travelling to France to learn ![]() In Vanguard terms I would be surprised if they are not available in Kojan. I am planning on finding out which weapon skill they use (I suspect polearm) and learning it alongside a more traditional tanking weapon skill so that when I travel to Kojan I can pick one up ![]() Small wonder my favourite weapon in EQ1 was my War Marshall's Bladed Staff ![]() |

I quit shortly after GoD was released - I'm not a huge raiding fan and the content was leaning quite heavily that way. I have always loved dungeon crawling, but no one was interested in LDoN (well, not that an average equipped Warrior could get a group anyway) so I eventually jumped ship when I realised I was just logging on because thats what I did every night
But I loved my bladed staff, picked it up for a song (someone must have typoed the price, or they really were only worth about 9k plat - same speed and damage as a Windblade with better stats for me) and it held agro just as well as dual wielding. Doesn't hurt that a Vah Shir in full plate looks like a badass carrying one, either 8) |

I know you're saying that you expect polearm, but I think it would be better suited as a staff skill.
You would practice with a staff too. Polearms would be ok, but I would like there to be a generic staff skill, which you could then choose naginatas, bos, poleaxes, etc to me that would be depth. And yes, in Kojan I would be shocked not to find these. Naginata/Poleaxe/Halberd would be my choice as a weapon to use besides a shield/sword. -Eclipse

Lightning I too liked doing LDoN's with my 67 Dark Elf Necromancer Seuin Deathweave. I had a Cleric friend who helped me get some nice items for my necromancer. My favorite tank was the ShadowKnight because they could take agro and keep it forever. With a ShadowKnight tanking I could stack 5 of my biggest dots and spam my biggest life tap and never get agro even with a mage buffed spectre
We got to the point where the cleric buffed and did melee most of the time, hell our clerics often times dusted off their Direct Damage spells *grin* I could even life bond the SK and give him/her 500hp a tic for 10 mana a cast.I would chose a longsword for my Dread Knight because I like the balance of speed and moderate damage. |
