Class restricted weapons
It seems to be a major debate on the main forums, but from a defensive fighter standpoint, i'm curious on what ya'll think about class restricted weapons. A lot of people seem to think its a bad idea in a roleplay sense, but i personally believe that like always, unless you restrict some people from some things, they'll want everything.
i'd seriously hate to see some mage takin a sword a fighter could use, and you know there'd be a fair amount of people that would actually not care whether the fighter needed it or not. anyway, thoughts? |

sadly, i have to say there should be class-specific items, especially if they are no-drop. in a perfect world i could equip my mage with a no-drop breastplate with a ton of AC on it only if everyone in the party didn't want it. but there will always be that one person who wants an item that certainly belongs to another class, and they will usually have some bizarre reasoning to go along with it. something to the extent of a mage saying "well i want the extra AC instead of INT so if the tank dies, i can tank better while we rez him...."
rules like class-specific items may limit what we can do, but they help stop any excess drama. |

I feel that class restricted weapons are very much needed. I think to give the game a more realistic feel, a person with certain training from a certain class should be able to use a weapon better. That being said, I'm not sure if a weapon should be designated specifically to one class, but more of like a recommended level, have a recommended class and make a certain class use it better than other classes.

Restricting Weapons seems kid of stupid, They should be able to use any weapon you want and be able to use certaint weapons much better than others, Like if your a paladin you can wield a Dagger for Extra Protection but you wont do as good as if you had your mace.

I feel that in terms of weapon restrictions it should be a mix of both. You shouldn't restrict it to the point where someone playing a caster class can only wield two types of weapons half the time, but at the same time, certain weapons need to be restricted to a point. I mean, realistically if you have some exotic and hard to wield weapons, anyone who isn't properly trained in the use of them is just as likely to hurt themselves as the enemy.

Hi ya'll new to the forums. This is a topic I find rather frustrating and always have. It would make more sense to me to have non restricted weaponry but give penatlies for people using weapons they shouldn't. As mentioned above Especialy with bladed weapons a lack of skill will usualy ingure the person trying to use the weapon as much as who they are trying to use it on. Would a mage type be able to swing much less hold a sword. And when they hit something with it can they absorb the shock, all while still trying to cast a spell. Of couse the same holds true with a healer trying to cast and using a mace hence my frustration. I know its a fantasy world and the rules of logic and reality are suspended but that should be put to as much of a limit as possible.
So I personaly would rather see a penalty applied rather than a class restriction. If a mage want that uber sword fine but it lowers his casting ability to next to nothing and he has to do a check to his own defensive abilities everytime he swings it to see if he dosent drop it ect. I know its probably a lot more than the programmers want to do but it would be a lot more realistic. |

I'm not a fan of restricting what weapon types a class can equip. I am however a fan of restricting certain weapons.
A "Black Bastard Sword of Death" wouldn't be the name of a Pally weapon, but it certainly fits the bill for Dread Knights. let the pallies have the "Shiny Claymore of Flowery Things"
