By now you’re probably all aware of counter spelling, but I wouldn’t be thorough if I didn’t talk about it. Spell casters use their perception skills to detect enemy magic being cast, and depending on the success of their detection, they have one of three options. A simple success means a chance to counter-spell and negate the effect (provided you click on the reaction). A good success means you can turn the spell back on it’s caster. It’s worth noting this isn’t always a good idea. A great success means that the entire nature of the spell can be altered against it’s will. This just sounds awesome. The fact that a caster can counter another casters spells is very cool. A chance to turn a spell cast at me back on the caster sounds like so much fun! Found this at the bottom of this page

I wonder if the Dev team plays D&D. Counterspell is used a bit in that game. Of course what they've done here is improved and expanded upon it. I wonder if Arcane casters can counterspell a spell and cause it to heal instead of harm, or if that ability is only for the Healing casters.

It has been stated that this is definitely possible. Depending on the perception level of the arcane caster and their counterspell success roll they might reduce the damage of the incoming spell, turn it into a shower of flowers, buff/heal their group with the opponents spell or turn it right back on them.

Hm...what if there are two Sorcs dueling, and both have the same skill level in perception, would they be able to harm eachother? would the battle become a game of magical ping-pong? I'm sure the team has though about this and I have a feeling there will be a randomness factor to think about, but IMO, still interesting.

I believe characters will have a perception bonus that is added to a random number.Always need some sort of randomness to keep things exciting.

Aye lets just hope the random number generator is a little more random than other RNG systems we've seen in other games.

I agree, the problem is see with this system (based on available info), would be that once someone found out the best paths for learning abilities and using them in the most effective way, perception would become broken and ruin combat. At the same time, I trust SGO has though about this and has some sort of solution.

Why would it be broken? Most everyone I know will be min and maxing. If everyone does it then everyone will still have the same chances. I just don't see what you are saying I guess.
