Diplomacy is Worthless

Sorry, not really kept up with the line of conversion, but I know is one which rages on in many forums.

I've also been down this road before, and while 'Diplomacy' is novel and interesting at first, you very quickly start questioning the benefits and if the time is better spent in crafting!

Definatly TRY Diplomacy! but maybe its better to get into it more later on in the games development when they have multi-spherical quest lines!

At the moment, you could easily get bored and very frustrated with the grind.

Even the much anticipated 'Writs' seem only to reward these 'masks' which benefit your diplomacy attributes only.. great for a diplomat but not all that usefull for anything else.

Ive argued on other forums that there is GREAT potential with diplomacy and multi-spherical quests (got some brilliant ideas myself) but for now dont get overly frustrated or concerned about diplomacy, dont let it spoil the game for you!

I got very annoyed after spending several days with diplomacy only to hit a point where I HAD to spend days more even just to do a quest. So annoyed I got that I just stopped playing!

It wasnt until a made another character and ignored diplomacy that I took my my enthusiasm

One side note, 'Spex has posted that the first pass of the writs to masks, had adventuring masks and diplo masks; it's the crafting masks they haven't had time to put into this pass (but it is planned at the 'soon' moment).

As soon as vgtact returns, you can do a search there, and find where he mentions this.

You could, I dunno...., try playing a game to enjoy PLAYING the game, instead of basing your opinion solely on what shiny goodies you can get your hands on?

I enjoy diplomacy because it's a fun game. If I get rewards that also help me craft, or adventure... awesome! If not, did that make it less fun?

OTOH, if you don't find diplomacy to be fun.... why do you care what you get out of it? You should stop wasting your time doing a non-fun activity that you're paying for, and play the part of the game you DO enjoy.

I play games to have fun, if I stop having fun, I stop playing. Suffering through a game you don't like just to get a reward is rather like hitting yourself with a hammer because it feels good when you stop.

So I'm new to this forum and use to like the diplomacy game in beta so I wanted to see where it is today. My feelings are on both sides of this. From Drunkensot first post

Diplomacy is like having a game within a game that has no relationship to the first game.

This is how I also saw this so have not gotten to much back to Diplomacy in the release version I am at like lvl 51 I think. I could see they had not gotten this part of the game to where it needs to be so like all you have been saying don't play it if you don't like it. That has been my choice so far, but I loved to play this when I did play it in beta (lvl 153) and want to get back to playing but I will not until they tie it closer to the rest of the game rather than just something fun to do inside this game. Changing the the overall attributes of the cite (possibly) is just not that rewarding so I just keep watching.

What I have been noticing is that a lot of people seem to equate reward with fun. If they don't get a substantial reward from whatever it is they're engaging in, then to them it's not fun. I don't get why people can't just play just for the fun of it, because to me the real reward is fun itself.

I agree with you but that brings the question of the definition of fun. For some ppl fun can only be achieved by the accomplishment of something they can use in the other spheres. I guess they don't see fun in the winning of a parley. For some fun is the end, not the means. The end is to get to be lvl 50 that is fun, nit the little battles and quest lines to get there. And even if means are fun maybe lack of action is boring and in crafting, where there isn't much action, there is at least something usable for the character or to sell.
I like diplomacy (depending on the day ) but I am expectant about the content addition there is supposed to come.

In the end, to each his own....
