Re: Diplomacy is Worthless

Drunken, I am not a high lvl adventurer. I'm a high lvl crafter/diplo. So as far as what these quests are, I'm not sure. I've only read about them. I do know that a diplo makes it MUCH easier.

The plan is to intergrate and overlap the spheres. Diplo is working towards it (albiet slower) since its much more difficult to do. I would say take a break till something perks your interest in the patch notes.

Also, Tailors DO NOT MAKE DIPLO CLOTHES. <-- wanted to make that noticeable. What you're seeing for sale on the AH are the T2 and T3 drops. Honestly, I don't think they will sell for that amount for long though (but that's just my 2cp).

Re: Diplomacy is Worthless

I'd be interested to know how the OP defines "worth it" - because it certainly doesn't seem to fit any definition I use.

This also seems to be one of those posts where venting was the primary objective -- which is fine, I've done a fair bit of it myself in the past. But if you say "A" and people respond with "B", please don't get rude to them just because they don't happen to agree with your rant.

Back up your yap with concrete examples of what exactly you got at lvl 200 that was worthwhile.
Diplomacy isn't about the "me" game its about the US, you benifith much much more then getting some piece of loot, you might not hear thank you every time you won a parly giving the crafters in the craft forum nice buffs, but still it should make you feel somewhat good knowing you contributed to some skill enhancements for others around you and if you really can handle your parly you can turn allot of things in your favour. Diplo has a very high range of changing things, no crafter or combantant can make this sort of changes that can effect large sum of people. 2 of my character have gotten horses just by parly, i was like "cool saved me 2x12,50" , the horsebag i read earlyer are still beter then what you normaly would buy, atleast mine had 12 slots, thought vendor had 8 & 10 slots, most items rewarded with parly's are of good use unless people wander of to new newbie area's and take newb diplo quest again then you might get stuff you don't want. But atleats from the start follow as much diplo chains you can find will give you pretty cool items. But i have to say "loot" is just a very small thing that makes me want to play mmorpg for me this type of game has so much more to offer i can not even decribe it, its still rough on the edges but it gonna be a very nice journy to whats ahead in Vanguard.
Btw ever noticed when nearing a city and getting buffs, you would not get them just from being at the city, we get them cause of others that parley'd in and near those city's

Ok, time to step away from the keyboards, take a deep breath, have some herbal tea (yuck, what am I saying, have a coke).

This is and can continue to be a useful thread if we just don't worry about an overly short response and its overly short rebuttal.

The idea of grinding cards, not being able to adventure, only to be able to let other people get good stuff and do better quests, while the diplomat lives for the day he can win sandals of superdooperness, that give him plus 200 for academic parlays, which is almost as good as what a midlevel tailor is selling for 1 gold on the AH, doesn't sound very inviting. Maybe if I high level diplomat could get a palace or something like that at a high level it might make it worthwhile. Right now, at low to mid levels diplos get next to nothing. I can see the logic of having a sphere where there are no meaningful low level rewards, but it would need to be balanced by having very valuable and unique rewards at high levels.

Altruism in MMOs is for the birds.
Maybe a different perspective on diplo is in order... but each to their own.

Please... tit for tat and thinking you *have* to resort to name calling etc is so childish. We don't need that here.

I figured people would see that as my edit. Because there is confusion, I just took it all out. Let's all be civil, folks.

You don't want to see SwordMage when he's angry.

OK, about the clothes. I saw clothing in the AH that had unique crafters names, such as "XYZ pants of superdooperness made by John Doe". Are those drops?

*enter Aredhel, looking at Nil, nodding, and fingering the beloved whip threaded about her waist...*

Time to ease up, folks!

Let me say this about that....

First, if you will kindly go back to the original reasons. Here is an easy explaination:

Quote:
The Diplomacy sphere will be used in towns to communicate, cohere, or influence NPC characters. Your skill, class, and choices during diplomacy will determine how NPCs treat your character, whether you can gain access to certain areas, receive quests, or purchase some items. Towns and cities will be”diplomacy dungeons.” Instead of the usual break from the main adventuring game, negotiating a town will be an active experience with its own rewards and challenges.

Based around a strategic card game, the diplomacy sphere will involve making the right decisions based on the circumstances and the NPC you’re dealing with. Equipment might give you bonuses to skills, but clothing choices will be environment based. Don’t visit the castle wearing rags and expect to get inside.
And, if you need a bit more information, take the time to wade thru Aruspex's ingame diplomacy chatlog!

After that, if you're having a problem understanding what Diplomacy will do for you in the game, once things REALLY get cranking, let me know and I'll see what we can do, ok?

Thanks. Please breath and take that break that Naiya mentioned!!

Re: Diplomacy is Worthless

Here's a post from a dev on VGTact taht may help shed some light on what's coming up the pipe: Btw it was on March 19.

Hi guys.

So I woke up this morning, and guessed this would the topic of conversation for today. I must be psychic.

Yes, relatively little content has gone into the last couple of updates. There are numerous reasons for this. As you guys know, I don't bother dancing around any issues with Diplomacy, but I also can't explain the nitty-gritty details of how we work.

Writs are still going in. The actual quests/parleys are more or less done. Events are still being worked on. Rewards are lagging behind for a variety of reasons. Likely you will be able to do Writs and gain facets for a week or two, then be able to build Diplomacy masks a week or two later, then Adventuring ones even later, a patch at a time.

We are beginning what I am calling our "Armor quests" for Diplomacy. For the hardcore elite of Diplomacy, these quests will offer you a fun storyline to play around in on each of Qalia and Thestra, while newer Diplomats will find the complete suits of quality tier 1 gear to be a valuable boon to development as a Diplomat. There is even something of a "set bonus" coming in for these special items that will allow you to build an uber set of Diplomacy tier 1 clothing.

After that big content upgrade, there will be another lull in content - I warn you now. Our after-hours work tweaking numbers will continue. In fact, in the next patch you will see a surprising upgrade to all held items.

Then there is the other annoying things - deconstruction not working, or the valise not holding clothing. These are things that require a number of people to work on, and several parts need completion before the whole can go into the game. Work progresses on this stuff.

It's not my nature to discuss the resource side of my job. I won't comment on how much resources Diplomacy has going for it, but I can continue to assert that we're doing our level best to keep growing the sphere. Your feedback on these forums is one of the valuable tools that allows us to make the right decisions on the time and effort we have to spend to make Vanguard great.

QFE

best two lines I have EVER read regarding the Diplo sphere! As for the rest, it's good to see the OP's original concerns are going to be addressed.
