3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

I have some questions about the 3 river diplomacy quests, presence and difficulty question. I've been trying to do the 3 rivers quests but do not have enough domestic presence.

for the "the dam" and one of the older ones "seeking....something, can't remember the rest of it), you are required to have 25 presence for a diplomacy level 50 mob. I know right now diplomacy level is upper 90's and I've just now barely been able to get enough presence to surpass the 25. For someone that is level 50 diplomacy, I doubt anyone will have enough clothes to have 25 presence.

The next step of the quests, and afew of the other quests around require presence of 50, yet the difficulty level is still set fairly low. I know before the update one of them was set at 30, not sure if it was changed or not. At close to level 100 diplomacy skill I am not anywhere close to having enough clothes to make 50 domestic presence. I think I have mostly soldier clothes and I'm lucky to make it to 40.

Are these numbers correct? am I doing something wrong with my civic diplomacy that I'm not getting better clothes?

I'm mainly doing civic diplomacy against 100-125 so I'm getting tier 2 items.

The numbers are probably correct I'm afraid. The only thing you can do differently is to parley with with npcs that give the presence you need so you dont have to depend only on gear....or you can buy stuff in the exchange. I know its frustrating, but I think these quests were designed for folks who have 'put in thier time' in diplomacy to get rewards (though its especially frustrating when you can get tier 2 gear from turn-ins thats better than the rewards, but thats a story for another thread, heh).

Re: 3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

I just went through most of this, ..and if you are a flatter race, when you have to deal with the 2nd part of talk to dumbo etc. good luck, that little halfling you gotta lick isa pain.

but as S. said all you can do is build up your presence, which isn't sooooooo bad...you can build up your presence pretty quick in Tursh at the farms, all skill level < 100, and only like 5 domestic.

I guess it took about 8 hours for me to get my presence up to 50, dunno if this is long or short, but my suggestion is put on good music and just be prepared to be mind bored, the parlay's are so very predictable as you grind it out. not worse than a grind session adventuring, just easier to see of how uttlerly tediacy it can be. but the good news is there are no CR's and no loss of xp due to lag, adds or spouses suddenly deciding make a presence in your life .

good luck, the good news is by grinding up the presence you will also grind up about 50 levels, which can't be but a good thing overall. cuz by the time you get to veskal's for those quests, you're going to need the levels.

I got a good domestic presence bit of clothing (+13 I think) from the arcana collector on the top of the tower at the outpost north of 3R-only had hearsay to turn in. That helped. Now getting to 50 will be a trick. Presence slowly rises with parleys, and some stuff can be bought at the exchange. Im working on domestic presence at the crafting farm at Tursh.

Re: 3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

If you can do convince parleys, I would suggest doing those as often as possible. Convinces normally give Arcana info. Arcana informants give shirts and belts, which are 2 of the highest pieces of presence gear.

There is always the luck factor in what presence you get on the gear, but overall you should get a decent mix. The turn ins are really the key to civic diplomacy and the post-newbie quests. The more turn ins you do, the more gear you will get, the more quests you can do, and the less of a "grind" it will be.

Re: 3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

yeah, I realize that, and have been mainly attacking just domestic presence, but by the time I have the presence I feel the difficulty level that is displayed for the NPC is incorrect. if the presence rating needed is the same or higher then the actual difficulty, I feel that might be off some.

LOL yeah, trust me I've done the mind numbing civic diplomacy. I'm single handedly given many buffs to both trush and BC

I'm just hoping the numbers might be off, I feel like I'm going after something that is below my level when I can finally get the presence to do the quests. (I really do like the quests, its the reason why I do diplomacy. I love the stories)

Re: 3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

Ahh, I see, sorry I missed it earlier...

yeah the numbers are "correct" as in how they should be for the game for the moment (as far as any of us know) but that is not the same thing as meaning the implementers of the design didn't do it on "napkins at denny's at 3am after a heavy night of drinking" (I love that quote from someone the other day)

in crafting and dilpo there doesn't seem to be that logical progress...so you have to treat it like um, yeah there could be a lvl 50 mob in the newbie zone, and sitting in the middle of the bank there is a world dungeon boss, both of whom will eat you if you come close but you have to get close enough to turn in a quest so you just gotta do the CR's til you get through it. It's FUN, like throwing a fly while fishing and have it catch you in the t'aint on the backswing.

for xmass we shoudla got the dev's a good spreadsheet program. or at least some graph paper.

Re: 3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

Well, it feels to me like the system was designed so that as long as you specialize in only one Presence it scales well. I mean, I'm sure I've gotten at least 40 Presence points from Parleys... they just happen to be spread between all of them instead of concentrated on one. Of course, I also ran into someone who was lvl 20+ with over 110 "naked" Presence in most categories only about two and a half weeks into launch. Maybe we just don't know the secret.

Of course, they could also help with this by giving you Presence points (Not through clothes) during the skill 1 - 40 tutorial. I mean, you get guarunteed skillups for each tutorial quest, you should get Presence points as well. That way when people are shunted into the big, scary world of civic diplo and high Presence req. quests they won't feel like everything is "so far away".

That is a good point about sticking to just 1 presence.

Re: 3 river diplomacy quest difficulty question

I hold the thought that the presence requirements have no logic behind them whatsoever besides forcing you to parley to increase it.

Case in example, the 'dravens' outlaw' quest series. Starts simple and then progresses you to get 50 domestic presence to talk to the villagers.

---> runs off to lvl up domestic presence
<--- runs back to slap some iron in the backs of the villagers

Now they need someone to train the villagers and behold, there's a dwarf that needs some ale nearby.

--> runs to dwarf

75 soldier presence.....So now I'm in BC running between the three guards at the entrance lvling presence.

So I think presence is literally a 'roadblock' that forces you to stop and parley.
