I must be screwing up somewhere

I am lvl 10 sorcerer and I have been trying to the diplomacy thing the last 2 days. I must be doing something wrong or missing something somewhere.

My skill is only 32 after about 8 hours of grinding. I am stuck on a couple quests that given all of my cards I cannot win the parlay no matter what I do. I wonder if i deceided to take the wrong cards after a quest?

I am a high elf and everything I am doing is in LN for now. I have completed alot of the queens orders and was working on this tough decisions and eyes and ears quests. I did the eyes and ears and I tried every diplomat I could find and i could not win any parlays with all of the cards that I have. The soldiers one I realize I have to keep going until I reach skill 40, but there are only 2-3 I can ever actually win at. I keep getting this statement thrown at me Keen Remark at both locations, and I co not have a card that will ever counter it. I have tried listen also.

Is there somewhere else I have to grind points to get more cards to win these battles? I admit I have not been everywhere in LN and maybe i am missing something.

there has to be a card that I am missing to win these conversations. I see people with 100+ skills here that haven't spent half the time I have and I am stuck beating the same soldier lvl 10 over and over every 5 minutes now.

thanks for any help or ideas.

Re: I must be screwing up somewhere

I haven't done the Leth Nurae diplomacy yet; however, from what I have seen, you should be able to complete the newbie quest line without any specific grinding. I have done the Tursh and Tanvu ones so far, hitting only a few speed bumps but not crashing into any brick walls.

This is an area that doesn't come for free; you really need to sit back and say, "ok, that strategy and those tactics didn't work for this NPC, what will?" There is a lot of trial and error here at the start until the flow of the various parleys begins to make sense.

Things that I think about are whether the NPC is using a specific expression to fuel cards, in which case, I may try to starve his expression. Or perhaps she has got a bunch of no-cost cards; then I might throw caution to the wind and create and spend as much expression as I can.

With enough practice, we should get better at seeing the flow and knowing what types of decks various stations (solder, crafter, etc) and races use at various levels and for which parley types. Then we can begin accumulating specific tactics for our favorite NPCs.

As far as taking the "wrong cards," the quests I have done give you the cards that most fit with your deck and allow you to choose extra ones; from what I have seen so far, those extra ones won't make or break a deck by themselves.

Re: I must be screwing up somewhere

It is entirely possible to win every quest in Leth Nurae newbie line with only the cards you are given. Try different stratgies, also... don't ignore the "Listen" button. Sometimes when you are ahead its best to listen as this does not give your opponent any expression to work with.

Also, make sure to use the "Line of Reasoning - Enticing Whisper" combo in conjuction with your +1 flattery gloves, nice for a quick head start on parleys that do not restrict Flattery.

Re: I must be screwing up somewhere

I agree with the previous poster. The quest line can be completed with the cards you have. It might take some strategy adjustment, but it can be done.

It will get more difficult with Civic Diplomacy however. I actually packed my bags and relocated to Tursh for awhile. I found Civic Diplomacy more manageable there and was able to skill up quite significantly.

Re: I must be screwing up somewhere

Supposedly they placed some npc's around for folks with skills under 40 to grind on. I would look for them. I found the spot in Martok but haven't looked elsewhere.

Even at 40 tho the beginning civ dip grind is a tough one. It doesn't start getting easier till about 50.
