Re: Low-end Diplomacy
this is meant with no disrespect to the orginal poster....so I really don't want it to be misconstrued that I think he's this dumb....it's more an admission I'm this dumb.
make sure you are playing the game right. Watch the thermomter, and make sure the dialog is going down on your side the fastest.... I spent 45 minutes after I got done rolling around in the newbie quests opening with a -1 card, then wondered why I wasn't even coming close. --because I wasn't watching the dialog number, all of a sudden I'd lose..and not know why...or win (rarely) and not know why. My 2nd character taught me, to read all the fine print because the thing I figured out, (after my first 45 minutes) I was doing wrong, was right there in the tut. quests, plain as daylight. also early on, I've found snippet of wisdom a great help, I hesitated with it because it gave the oppenent so many points, but it can be a real life safer before you build a deck to turn a 1 on his side into a 1 on your side, and not lose turns losing while you wait for your good cards to pop. what I've been doing recently is play 2 0-advance but 1,2 points (of your race's favored color) and then the 3-advance and 4-advance. It back fires sometimes (esp. on parlay's where your strengths are not allowed) but overall has proven ok. and in the end, you'll get it, the light will turn on, and you'l be able to predict thier 15th move by their first one. kinda like playing chess on the short bus. |

Re: Low-end Diplomacy
I too gave up early on in this as adventuring kicked in.
I rolled a dwarf so started my Dip levels outside the caves after new newbie area. I got my dip upto 12 then stopped to do more adventuring. I find it really is something you should stick at. I use Listen alot infact outside 3 rivers there is a bugged NPC that let's you win every time. You play your Green opener card then they play the same reply then you simply listen for the rest of the moves and win since they don't seem to have any cards that gives them points you can simply starve them of points. In your example I'm sure the card they are playing moves the slider in your direction so keep it moving in your direction on your next play it will be cancelled out but to move the marker they MUST give you something. Also make sure you equip clothes that give you starter points in some categories this helps as well. I have a card that gives me 3 points and cost 2 blues I have blue as a starter as well so I can get 2 points from my green then use a 0 card which gives me 2 red and a blue so my following card can be a 3 pointer and (hopefully) they combat this with a red point which allows me to followup with a 4 point red card. I hardly lose at the moment and went from 12-31 very fast last night. |

Re: Low-end Diplomacy
I got one from a quest I think it was from my first trainer so pre level 15 diplomacy. Really you can get from 1-10 without any bother. Sometimes it takes a bit of thought. If you don't like it at level 10 you'll hate it once you get into your 30s and have much more choice. It's pure luck if you get the parlay right first time. (Last night it took me more than 20 minutes to beat this one NPC and i really had to use unorthodox moves to beat him starting the game with a 0 demand card instead of a comment. He had 4 cards which give him 3 points for 2 colour points. If I started with the comment card he then had a card which cost him 0 points but GAVE him 4 colours this his next 4 cards were win win win win giving me a point in each colour which was useless as I required 2 points to gain any points. I won't tell you how I beat him but it was the 1st real challenge I've had in Dimplomacy and I'm level 37.
