Re: Fancy Pants for the win!
What I think on this one... I believe that horses/mules will be available pretty early on (like the devs stated) and that that will be the only place that we can store an alternate source of equipment. I wouldn't like having macros in the middle of a crawl just because you want to harvest the uber mithril mine you stumble upon; for this would ruin the whole point of having different spheres. If you could macro and be profficient at harvesting, macro again and be at 100% combat status... I don't see it as being worth coding the whole system.
Adventuring > Harvesting > Crafting > Diplomacy ^^ may change once beta is thrown around, and once I ultimately get some first hand experience. |

Re: Fancy Pants for the win!
For Harvesting I wouldn't imagine that you would have much to switch out, except maybe the weapons slot would become a tool slot. I see no purpose or benefit to switch from full plate to a lumberjack outfit if you want to cut down trees. I highly doubt each sphere will require us to completely switch out all of our gear to be good at it. UNLESS - the various gear gave us bonuses to that particular sphere. A miners outfit would give us bonuses to mining for example. (But really I don't even see that happening - I could be wrong).
At most I expect that we'll be switching out tools for Harvesting/Crafting/and Adventuring. For diplomacy we'd be switching out gear sets. That's my take on it anyways. |

I would like a macro, because I would agree that clicking 23 some odd pieces of gear on/off would get old. I just don't want to see it usable, say, in the middle of a dungeon, or somewhere out of the range of your horse (like you said, I totally agree with that). Just to clarify. -Edited because I can't spell. Last edited by Guanott : 07-13-2005 at 08:22 PM. |

Re: Fancy Pants for the win!
I'm pretty sure I read one of Brad's comments somewhere, where he was commenting on a screenshot showing an equipment screen in the GUI, and he said that there will be separate equipment pages for each of adventuring, crafting, and diplomacy.
If I were to guess, I would say that you will always be wearing your 'clothing', the diplomacy gear, and that over it will go your adventuring armor and such and even the toolbelt and pouches used in crafting. I think it could all be on at once, or at least, I think that would be a cool way to do it, personally.

Personally, I prefer having to change clothes. Not to say that certain things shouldn't be worn (say a diplomat hat, but leather armor). Plus, I REALLY think that some items should be cross sphere. Like ceremonial armor that provides AC and looks good, or a leather apron that provides AC and can be used in crafting.

Its the little things that make the difference in whether a game is an enjoyable immersive experience or just hack/slash and go watch tv. Changing your clothes and changing your equipment, maybe even your jewelry would certainly change your mindset on whatever task you are attempting. Getting attacked while you are carefully placing that oh-so-expensive jem on that band you just made to create that oh-so-awesome ring would be jarring and should necessitate some creative cursing and the application of the macro (the one i am SO HOPING to find/get) to change all your gear. |
