The diplomacy interface.....

Howdy all,

I just cant get this out of my head. Have you all seen the screenshot(s) of the diplomacy encounter with the cards on the screen?

The cards themselvs and the information listed on them reminds me of circa 1980 and big blocky graphics. Back then big and blocky was hip and current - just the fact there were pictures on the screen was awesome. Remember the text only games?? haha

The big blocky cards with big numbers and words on em is so not very subtle or even good looking. There has to be a way to smarten up the screens and still give us the information we need to play in the diplomacy sphere.

I know its beta, but I hope they tone down and smarten up the user interface for the diplomacy screens..my goodness but bubbles over their heads with just the available responses showing (with the data u need to know about them a right click away) would be cool. Thats just one suggestion.

What do you all think?

I got the impression that they were going for a Magic:The Gathering look to the diplomacy cards. From the diplo information, I'd say they've succeeded.

That said, I agree with you. The art could be much better. Maybe smaller cards with tooltips?

The art on the cards looks like it's placeholder. They just seem to be normal icons stretched to fit the size of the card's image slot. You can tell from the pixelation and such. I'm assuming/hoping that they'll have unique art by release.

How is Vanguard going to be dealing with faction differences...is it going to effect Diplomacy..is it going to relate closely to the EQ Faction system..because i enjoyed that type of faction system and the many factions you could raise or lower.

Just it would be nice however not to have specific mobs giving a specific % exp, and then you ruin faction by killing them depending on your race and eliminating them from your list for farming.

Diplomacy is going to drive the faction system from what I recall. Instead of relying on the adventuring sphere (hack and slash) to raise or lower your faction, diplomacy will be relied upon which makes alot more sense to me. I mean lets be realistic who's going to know if you kill a few hundred kobolds out in the wild with no one to see. Thats like asking if a tree falling in the woods makes a sound or not.

On the other hand alot of people are going to know if you make enemies in a city via your diplomacy. Word travels quickly there.

I've gotten faction messages for both killing mobs and for diplomacy parleys. Word still travels telepathically, it seems ...

Didn't they say a whole new interface was planned? Its not fully implemented yet as shown by a "few" diplomacy NPC's not yet being present. Magic the Gathering is a good base as many people are familiar with it so it means it is tested better as the concept is already known

The new way is in place and that is what we have been testing in beta.

Also FYI the most the new artwork is done. Just needs to be attached to the cards. And will be as soon as a few more card combonations are put in.

Also if you don't like the interface chust shill for a while and there will be more UI mods.
