Re: Gaming Roots
I never played a computer game until after I left home aged 18. Then I went to university and met my boyfriend (now fiance), who loves gaming and computers. He introduced me to that whole world, and I think my first game was Master of Orion II, which we played against each other (that's also when I same up with my character name Astraad). After that, I played stuff like the Monkey Island games and then he got me interested in D&D via Baldur's Gate. We played all through that and Baldur's Gate II, multiplayer, controlling half the party each in our final year as undergraduates. I love those games!
Since then, I've played various RPGs: Icewind Dale I and II, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic. Also a few stategy games...uh...a Star Wars one and most recently Civ IV......oh and The Grim Fandango! Hehe, no that's not strategy. But as for MMOGs, my first and only so far is SWG. My fiance started that at least 6 months before me, but later I thought I would join in. It was great for a while - I worked my way up to Master Ranger, Master Creature Handler, and we were part of a small Guild (the NWW), with our own sector in a player town. But then the NGE killed both my professions, and now I find the game gets boring pretty quickly. Plus almost all of the NWW have left.
So that leaves me waiting for Vanguard! I heard about it first from a guildmate, and there now are a small bunch of us keeping our eyes on the development, intending to play when it launches. It sounds like there will be several aspects of VG that made SWG enjoyable in the old days, plus a huge amout of other exciting ideas. I can't wait! I'm not really playing much of anything right now, just reading Vanguard sites and supposedly writing my thesis!
