I am a bit disappointed at this, the tiny chance of getting a good drop is a good motivator.
When Playing Helbreath a Korean PvP MMORPG I used to relax by attacking a snake pit for drops in the hope of getting a valuable neckless, a 1:10,000 drop, the other trash dropped provided a bit of pocket money. The spawn rate ensured that this bit of casual farming never limited low level players fun. In fact you spent almost as much time saving them from snake swarms and noobe gankers as killing snakes. (I was level 120 the snakes level 20).
