Re: Instancing in Online Gaming
Lol @ internet!
You do bring up a good point though. Recently, I had the unfortunate experience of playing a horribly managed MMO, ROSE Online. Managed by the notrious Gravity Interactive, they somehow managed to reset everyone's quests after a patch. Before the patch, I had to do a quest that took me about 4 hours, and consisted of waiting for one mob that spawned about every 30 seconds to a minute in ONE area, and manage to get the first hit on it, while competing with whoever else was there. As I was a CLERIC (mind you not the VG mace-wielding cleric), it was extremely difficult even to hit the mob. The reward for this quest was being able to access the next "planet," which was basically the level 60+ zone. Now, imagine, after one seriously messed-up patch, Hundreds of people standing in one zone, trying to get first hit on a mob with a complete crap spawn rate, and a 5% chance of getting the quest item so they could get some halfway-decent exp in their own level area. In that respect, I know exactly where you're coming from =P
I stopped playing shortly thereafter >_<
Edit: Actually took the time to read my post. Run-ons galore!
