I'm kinda resurrecting this post, just in case you're still interested.

I'm using a rather old PC, an Athlon XP 2500+, with 1Gb PC3200 RAM, a GeForce 6600GT AGP card and an old SB Live. I did quit Vanguard a while back but after hearing of the updates and bug fixes, I thought I'd give it another try and it's not too bad! I still have the occasional CTD which I tracked down to my old soundcard but I found a work-around for that. My old system runs the game at around 53fps on the High Performance setting but I tweak it here and there to improve the looks. One thing I haven't done yet is visit a large city - my framerates will probably be hit hard - but I'm quite surprised at how well it runs now.

Oh, for those that may be interested in the SB work-around - disable the sound in your vgclient.ini (in the Vanguard/bin folder). Do this by finding the line that starts UseSound=True and editing it to read UseSound=False. Save the file and start Vanguard. Once in the game proper (not Character Select) and once the game has settled for a few mins use the Settings to enable sound again. One thing - remember to disable the sound before you log out or exit or you'll need to edit the vgclient.ini file again. One last thing - make sure the sound device is set to Generic Software as this seems to be more stable. This system works for me.

Hope this helps.
