I currently only whip out SS combo if I am fighting in a tough place and need to block a lot, or when more than 1 mob come trying to butter my behind.
counterattack opportunities - again, most of time i dont find them worth bothering, because it seems (I may be wrong) one needs to wait for counterattack to execute before using Malice or Vengeful Strike again, which I find hardly worth it (unless you are short on endurance of course).
I just picked up a rare great sword with 25 dps on it (I am level 19), and amount of damage I do in 1 on 1 situation or grp dps situation is slightly better it seems. I mean, when you see a 700 malice crit followed by a 900 wrack crit (happened once so far today, most of time crits are way lower like 300-500 ranges), that just warms your heart.
So all-in-all, in a defensive situation, definitely SS, in situation where you can afford to go offensive, a really good 2hs for your level seems to pay for itself - if you cant afford a high dps 2hs, there is still a couple of quests that give you a 15dps 2h wep, which is pretty respectable for my level still.
