I haven't encountered any linked mobs that couldn't be split (somehow), given that you have enough room.
If you're pulling, you need to learn the tactics. Tactics are learned by trial and error. Try different things and be ready to run and die. In my groups I pull because I like to set the pace, and the pace is determined by watching your group. Take advantage of the classes you have and the utilities that can be used from each.
So, I guess I'm saying, pullers are pullers, not any specific class. Sure some classes work better than others, but to be a good puller you understand how it works first.
You'd be amazed at what can be split, once you start trying different things. As an example, I was splitting even con ghosts last night that were 5 ft apart just by body (radius) pulling.
