First, a bit of etymology:
Quote:
The most probable reason that you heard it as a boy was either that people in those days were generally more reluctant to say what in the damn[ed]
hell...? than people today or that they were more likely to guard their speech in the presence of small boys.
While all authorities agree that Sam Hill is a polite alternative to damn (or damned) hell there is no unanimity as to who in the Sam Hill this Sam Hill was.

He wasn't trying to "be funny." This has been used for years and years!!
Secondly, Hasium was correct when he said many of the RP server's population was starting to swing towards merger. If you'll remember, Fironia Vie wasn't created in EQ for quite some time, but once it was, it was great! The rules were very much RP rules, right down to only having one character and you had to learn all the languages in order to even talk to each other! Personally, I'm sad because I was really considering going to that server to get away from all the ones you are talking about that disrespect (in my view) those who do like to keep a strict name policy and enjoy RP to keep the spirit of the game.
Oh well!
Florendyl wasn't a strict RP server, as it is, but many there do stay in role. On the flip side of this, many on the other servers do the same thing! I've run into quite a few, thankfully, and do enjoy a bout of RP now and again! So, don't count it out! They can bring it back if they want to, and make it more like the strict RP'ers really wanted.
FFA for PvP. Hotly debated many times over.
I know there are a lot that like team PvP, but in a world this big, maybe he's right! And I've seen some great discussions for FFA, too. I've actually seen FFA win out in many of those threads! Come up with your own version of "Capture the Orc" or something and get creative. Personally (again), I'm anything
but PvP, but you can roll with it or not.
One of the reasons a lot of people quit was because they got tired of hearing so many in the channels talking down the game! There are many who are enjoying it a lot and the mergers will allow them to enjoy it with more people. It will help SoE regroup and continue fixing what is broken.

The product after 6+ months worth of time is still in disarray, and the population that is left is bitter and bored.

Yeah? And...SoE has had it how long? About 2 months of that? Don't start blaming them for these problems! That started long before and they're doing (I can't believe I'm saying this...) a really
good job of fixing a BUNCH of the problems! That includes your rant about the GMs.
Wanna know why they say "sorry" a lot?
GM-Nethe explained this to me before she left, when I was complaining about some bad names. The way things were, and are for now, I'm guessing, is that there is code so goofed up on characters that if they DO change a name, or fix a faction or exp loss or something, there is a good chance that they could break your character to the point of unrepair! Sometimes, they would give the player a choice...try it and take the chance, or just keep going. Shoot, if I'm not mistaken, there were some broadcasts about that when people were screaming about it long ago.
So, give'm a break! If you don't want to put up with the fixes and relaunch, then....fine, but don't try to upset others that are really trying to help and have fun in the world that Telon was meant to be. I haven't been fond of SoE for years now, but I've seen them do some things that have really made me respect their attempts to do good things to their games. VSoH is a prime example.
Let's let them work and tweak and give them some credit for taking the game we all had high hopes for (and still do) and making it into a fun and highly playable game!
